Job summary

Windings, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer for an on-site role in New Ulm, MN.

You will drive process improvements, ensure smooth transfer of products into production, and work hands-on with cross-functional teams to enhance quality, efficiency, and innovation on the production floor. The ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree in engineering or physical science, strong problem-solving skills, and familiarity with SPC, DOE, and Gage R&R.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or physical science from an accredited university or college.
  • Familiar with statistical and scientific tools (e.g., Gage R&R, DOE, process capability, SPC).
  • Ability to identify technical problems and apply systematic solutions to project responsibilities.
  • Basic understanding of electric motor theory and inspection methods.
  • Ability to present technical recommendations to internal/external customers.
  • Use project/process management tools (Gantt, RACI) to meet deliverables.
  • Develop relationships with suppliers and customers for project inputs/outputs.

  • Write clear work instructions for manufacturing operators.
  • Assist in disposition of non-conforming rejects and corrective actions.

  • Provide data for technical reviews and oversee development builds.
  • Develop understanding of key production processes and materials.
  • Assist in fixture and tooling design for product development.
  • Create dimensional characterization methodology and inspection criteria.
  • Investigate root causes and implement corrective actions related to quality or cost.
  • Create an education plan to advance skills and organizational effectiveness.

Location:

This is a fully on-site position based in New Ulm, MN. Candidates must be able to work on-site as required. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you will be responsible for:

The Project Engineer assists in the development of capable processes and ensures efficient and effective transfer of product into production. The position is responsible for initiating and conducting defined technical tasks associated within a manufacturing environment.

  • Assesses process capabilities and innovates and implements process improvements for discrete, well-defined processes.
  • Analyze, understand, and apply technical and quality requirements of well-defined products to create proper documentation to meet the requirements of a given contract.
  • Writes clean and concise work instructions that can be understood by manufacturing operators.
  • Assist in disposition and review of non-conforming rejects to identify and implement actions to prevent re-occurrence
  • Contributes to technical reports, validations, and qualifications by capturing experimental results.
  • Writes validation protocols and reports applicable to new processes.
  • Gathers and provides technical data for technical reviews.
  • Oversees development builds associated with the project.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of key production processes and materials.
  • Assists in the designing of fixtures and tooling to facilitate product development.
  • Create dimensional characterization methodology and inspection criteria.
  • Investigate root cause and implement corrective action as pertaining to quality or cost concerns.
  • Identifies and implements a comprehensive education plan to continually advance technical skills and personal development as well as enhancing organizational effectiveness.
What you need:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or physical science from an accredited university or college.
  • General understanding and working knowledge of common engineering concepts & applications including statistical and scientific tools (e.g., Gage R&R, DOE, process capability, SPC, etc.).
  • Ability to identify technical problems and execute solutions relevant to project responsibility using a systematic problem-solving process.
  • Basic understanding of electric motor theory and principles, including typical mechanical and electrical inspection methods.
  • Ability to create technical presentations and recommendations for internal and external customers.
  • Apply basic project/process management tools (i.e., Gantt chart, RACI matrices) to ensure performance against project deliverables.
  • Ability to develop effective work relationships with suppliers and customers of project/process input and output.

Hiring Range:

This position is eligible to participate in a performance-based bonus program based on company performance goals. Bonus payouts are not guaranteed and are determined at the company's discretion.
