Job summary

Cochran in Portland seeks a Project Engineer (HVAC Controls) to coordinate and execute project operations for commercial electrical projects focusing on HVAC controls, DDC, and BAS installations.

You will collaborate with mechanical, controls, and electrical contractors to support design, installation, commissioning, and project delivery while maintaining schedules, documentation, and compliance with company standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; two-year college certificate preferred or two years of related experience accepted
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting safety protocols and operating instructions; able to write routine reports
  • Fluent in English; able to communicate clearly before groups of customers or employees
  • Strong math skills: basic arithmetic for measurements and units

Responsibilities

  • Gather details to ensure accurate material selection and owner/third-party information
  • Maintain and track jobsite documentation (RFIs, ASIs, change orders)
  • Coordinate with trades to align efforts and manage documentation
  • Prepare and submit project submittals, schedules, and O&M manuals
  • Estimate, quantify, and draft change orders as needed
  • Monitor QA procedures and keep QA logs; address issues
  • Participate in project meetings and document decisions

About The Role

As a Project Engineer (HVAC Controls), you will be responsible for the coordination, planning, and execution of project operations to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and alignment with project goals. This team focuses on HVAC Controls, Direct Digital Controls (DDC), and Building Automation Systems (BAS) installations for commercial electrical projects. The team collaborates with mechanical, controls, and electrical contractors to support design, installation, commissioning, and project delivery. Assists with various administrative and operational tasks throughout the project lifecycle, helping to maintain schedules, documentation, communication, and compliance with company standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Gather necessary details to ensure accurate material selection, dimensions, and incorporation of owner- or third party-supplied information
  • Maintain and track all jobsite documentation, including RFIs, ASIs, change orders, and relevant updates
  • Coordinate with other trades to align efforts and manage associated documentation effectively
  • Prepare and submit project submittals, schedules, and operations and maintenance (O&M) manuals
  • Estimate, quantify, and draft change orders as required throughout the project lifecycle
  • Monitor and document quality assurance procedures, including maintaining QA logs and addressing issues
  • Participate in project meetings as assigned, supporting communication and documentation of decisions

We Are Looking For Someone With The Following Competencies
  • High school diploma required. A two-year college or university certificate is preferred. Alternatively, two years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is acceptable
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety protocols, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Proficient in writing routine reports and correspondence. Able to speak clearly and effectively before groups of customers or employees. Fluency in written and spoken English required
  • Strong ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, including working with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
  • Capable of applying common sense to carry out written, oral, or diagram-based instructions and solve problems involving several concrete variables within standardized situations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including spreadsheet software and basic project management applications
  • No Certificates or Licenses required
  • Work may occasionally involve proximity to moving mechanical parts and exposure to outdoor conditions on active construction sites
