Moss is a national construction firm actively seeking a Project Engineer, Estimating to join our Fort Lauderdale team. You will assist estimating operations with document reviews, quantity takeoffs, and coordination with vendors and internal teams to position bids competitively.

The role develops estimating process proficiency and contributes to bid development for project success. Bachelor’s degree in STEM and familiarity with common estimating tools are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM or equivalent. Internship experience in estimating or project management is acceptable.
  • Basic understanding of estimating processes, construction drawings, safety, and quality standards.
  • Understand tasks and how they support estimate development and when to elevate issues.
  • Basic understanding of scope budgets and vendor pricing inputs.
  • Knowledge of standard Estimating tools such as Bluebeam, Primavera P6, Smartsheet, and Excel.
  • Drafts clear RFIs, meeting notes, and summaries.
  • Ability to perform accurate takeoffs and data entry in estimating tools.
  • Identify data gaps and escalation risks quickly.
  • Builds working relationships with vendors, subs, and internal peers.
  • Completes deliverables accurately and with attention to detail; seeks clarification when needed.
  • Learning mindset; seeks feedback and applies guidance.
  • Adapts to schedule changes, addenda, or evolving project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety considerations are built into project estimates, logistics, and site visits.
  • Perform document reviews to understand plans, specifications, and the scope of work.
  • Draft RFIs; ensure clarity, accuracy, and alignment with supervisors.
  • Maintain organization of project documents.
  • Capture meeting minutes and distribute within 24 hours.
  • Compile estimates, summaries, qualifications, and assumptions per templates.
  • Collaborate on preparing preliminary schedules for proposals.
  • Use historical data to analyze prices and trends.
  • Identify pricing variances and validate estimate assumptions.
  • Assemble addenda, project summaries, storyboards, and backups for bids.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and verify alignment with drawings.
  • Support memo and basis of bid with relevant inputs.
  • Follow bid and bid review processes; prepare pre-reads 24 hours before meetings.
  • Request pricing from vendors/subcontractors; track due dates and escalate delays.
  • Support pricing review and gap identification.
  • Collect vendor/sub data to ensure scope coverage and reduce risk.
  • Collaborate with leads to align bid philosophy and strategy.
  • Maintain professional vendor/sub contact data and NDAs.
  • Participate in kickoff meetings, site visits, weekly check-ins, and review sessions.
  • Issue recap and status updates to support team communication.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

POSITION SCOPE AND ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT

The Project Engineer will support estimating operations by performing document reviews, quantity takeoffs, and coordination with vendors and internal teams. As a Project Engineer, you will develop technical competency in estimating processes and contribute to bid development that supports competitive positioning and project success.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure safety considerations are built into project estimates, logistics, and site visits.

  • Perform document reviews to understand plans, specifications, and the scope of work.

  • Draft RFIs; ensure clarity, accuracy, and alignment with supervisors.

  • Maintain organization of project documents.

  • Capture meeting minutes, action items, and distribute within 24 hours of meetings.

  • Compile estimates, summaries, qualifications, and assumptions in line with templates and standards.

  • Collaborate with leads on creating preliminary schedules for project proposals.

  • Leverage historical databases to perform price analyses and comparisons.

  • Collaborate with leads on identifying pricing trends, cost variances, and validating estimate assumptions.

  • Assemble addenda, project summaries, storyboards, and backup information for bid deliverables.

  • Perform accurate, detailed quantity takeoffs and verify consistency with drawings and bid strategy.

  • Support memo and basis of bid preparation by collecting and organizing relevant inputs.

  • Ensure the established bid and bid review process is followed.

  • Prepare and distribute pre‑reads 24 hours before meetings.

  • Send pricing requests to vendors and subcontractors promptly after kickoff.

  • Assign and track due dates for vendor/sub responses; elevate delays as needed.

  • Support pricing review (leveling, checklist compliance, identifying gaps).

  • Collect and analyze vendor/sub data to support accurate scope coverage and reduce risk.

  • Collaborate with Leads and Managers to align bid philosophy and strategy.

  • Engage with vendors/subs professionally, maintaining accurate contact data and NDAs.

  • Participate actively in kickoff meetings, site visits, weekly check‑ins, and review sessions.

  • Support effective team communication by issuing recaps, logs, and status updates.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM and/or 1+ years in estimating or project management roles (internships included).

  • Basic understanding of estimating processes, construction drawings, safety, and quality standards.

  • Understands assigned tasks, how they support estimate development, and when to elevate issues.

  • Basic understanding of scope budgets and vendor/sub pricing inputs.

  • Knowledge of standard Estimating tools, such as Bluebeam Revu, Primavera P6, Smartsheet, and Microsoft Excel.

  • Drafts clear RFIs, meeting notes, and summaries.

  • Ability to perform accurate takeoffs and data entry in estimating tools.

  • Must be able to identify data gaps and escalation potential risks quickly.

  • Builds working relationships with vendors, subs, and internal peers.
