Job summary

Kiewit is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to oversee multiple building projects from planning through execution. You will manage subcontractors, review plans, schedule activities, forecast costs, and mentor junior staff across projects.

Based in a dynamic district, this role emphasizes safety, ethics and leadership with relocation flexibility and mentoring opportunities to advance to Project Management.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Construction Management or Construction Engineering is required.
  • Minimum 5+ years of work experience in construction or engineering, vertical construction preferred.
  • 2+ years' experience managing engineers and project subcontractors.
  • Ability to read and analyze engineering plans, specs, and contract documents.
  • Strong initiative, ethics, safety mindset and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Perform contract compliance, quality control and field oversight of subcontractors.
  • Develop understanding of contract plans and specifications.
  • Inspect field conditions, identify issues and propose cost-saving measures.
  • Review subordinates’ work for contract compliance and address deficiencies.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Project Engineer to oversee and support multiple building projects from planning through execution. This role requires a strong understanding of subcontractor management, and field operations, as well as experience with review of contract plans and specifications, project scheduling, cost forecasting, and team leadership. The ideal candidate will have a few construction projects under their belt performing subcontractor oversight for building projects, proactive in identifying and resolving issues, ensuring compliance at the site, and driving operational excellence with the team. Responsibilities
  • Perform Contract Compliance, quality control & Field Oversight of subcontractors on the project
  • Develop a complete understanding of contract plans and specifications.
  • Inspect field conditions to identify problems, inaccuracies, and potential cost-saving measures.
  • Take corrective actions as needed to resolve field issues.
  • Review subordinates’ work for compliance with contract documents; address deficiencies and implement corrective measures.
  • Project Scheduling & Coordination
  • Develop and maintain the project master schedule using appropriate techniques and scheduling software.
  • Collaborate with project management personnel to gather input and ensure schedule accuracy.
  • Document Control & Change Management, handle project closeout.
  • Manage document control processes including logging and tracking new issue drawings and contract documents.
  • Review new issue drawings for changes in conditions; quantify impacts and communicate with supervisor.
  • Distribute updated documents to field teams and ensure proper implementation.
  • Cost Forecasting & Financial Planning
  • Prepare monthly cost projections using data from project management systems.
  • Develop quarterly cash flow projections to support financial planning.
  • Operational Improvement & Leadership
  • Recommend improvements to project operations including staffing, methods, and procedures.
  • Serve as managing project engineer/coordinator across multiple projects.
  • Provide supervision and on-the-job training for junior engineers and project staff.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 5+ years’ work experience in construction or engineering, vertical construction is preferred.
  • 2+ years' experience managing engineers and project subcontractors
  • Ability to read, analyze and identify discrepancies on engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative
  • Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity
  • Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt

Base Compensation: $110,000 - $140,000

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
