French & Parrello Associates (FPA) in Wall Township, NJ is seeking a motivated Project Engineer to join our Bridge Department. The role focuses on the design and delivery of transportation infrastructure across New Jersey, including bridge rehabilitation, replacement, and related improvements.

This position offers hands‑on experience, mentorship, and exposure to all phases of project delivery, with a pathway toward engineering leadership within FPA’s Bridge Department.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
• Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
• 5–8 years of progressive bridge design/structural engineering experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• Experience with LEAP Bridge, LARSA, MIDAS, CSiBridge, STAAD or equivalent.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design for bridge and transportation structures.
• Prepare engineering calculations, design plans, reports, specifications.
• Develop structural models and perform analysis using bridge design software.
• Assist with bridge load rating analyses and structural evaluations.
• Coordinate design activities and schedules with multidisciplinary teams.
• Support proposal preparation and cost estimating.

• Prepare engineering calculations, design plans, technical reports, specifications, and other project documentation
• Develop structural models and perform analysis using bridge design software such as LEAP Bridge, LARSA, MIDAS, CSiBridge, STAAD, or similar programs
• Assist with bridge load rating analyses and structural evaluations
• Support project delivery efforts by coordinating design activities, tracking project requirements, and assisting with schedules and deliverables
• Collaborate with roadway, geotechnical, hydraulic, environmental, and construction engineering teams to support integrated project solutions
• Apply AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, NJDOT standards, and applicable local agency requirements to engineering designs
• Participate in field visits, bridge inspections, and data collection activities to support design and construction assignments
• Review design documents for accuracy, quality, and compliance with project requirements
• Assist senior engineers with technical guidance, mentoring of junior staff, and development of engineering solutions
• Support proposal preparation, cost estimating, and other business development activities as needed

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required; Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred
• 5 to 8 years of progressive experience in bridge design and structural engineering
• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Experience with bridge analysis and design software such as LEAP Bridge, LARSA, MIDAS, CSiBridge, STAAD, or equivalent preferred
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
• Knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and NJDOT design procedures preferred
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and technical communication skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary project team
• Demonstrated interest in continued professional growth and development

Compensation

The projected compensation range for this position is $90,000 to $115,000. Actual compensation will depend on factors including experience, education, qualifications, and skill set. FPA recognizes and rewards performance through an annual bonus program and offers a signing bonus for this particular position for qualified candidates.
