Job description

Position Overview

As a Project Engineer – BIM, you’ll support our mechanical design, coordination, and field teams by creating and managing 3D BIM models for plumbing, HVAC, and related systems on commercial construction projects. You’ll help produce accurate shop drawings, perform clash detection, and bridge the gap between design and field execution using tools like Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks. This role is ideal for a detail‑oriented professional with 2–4 years of BIM experience who is eager to grow their skills in a collaborative, people‑first environment while contributing to high‑quality, clash‑free mechanical installations.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed 3D BIM models of plumbing, HVAC, piping, and mechanical systems from engineered drawings and specifications.
  • Produce shop drawings, spool drawings, and fabrication‑ready models to support prefabrication and field installation.
  • Perform clash detection and interference checks using Navisworks; generate reports and collaborate with project teams to resolve conflicts before construction begins.
  • Participate in coordination meetings and maintain clear project documentation on company servers or client platforms (Procore, Bluebeam, etc.).
  • Support field teams by providing digital construction layouts for tools such as Trimble robotic total stations and mobile applications.
  • Assist engineers, estimators, and project managers with conceptual designs, quantity takeoffs, and design‑build deliverables as needed.
  • Adhere to company BIM standards and workflows while helping improve processes and templates.
  • Collaborate effectively with engineers, project managers, superintendents, and subcontractors to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Help mentor junior BIM staff as your experience grows.
Supervisory Responsibilities

None (this is an individual contributor role with opportunities to support and mentor less experienced team members over time).

Requirements/Qualifications
  • Experience: 2–4 years of hands‑on BIM modeling or mechanical design experience, preferably in plumbing, HVAC, or mechanical construction. Field experience is a strong plus.
  • Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, CAD Drafting, or a related field preferred; equivalent practical experience considered.
  • Certifications/Licenses: Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
  • Physical Demands: Primarily office‑based with occasional job‑site visits for surveys or coordination; ability to walk active construction sites and lift light materials as needed.
  • Work Environment/Safety: Professional office environment with hybrid flexibility and occasional active construction sites; must adhere to safety protocols and wear required PPE when on‑site. This is a safety‑sensitive position.
Required Skills
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.
  • Familiarity with Fabrication CADmep, Bluebeam, Trimble layout tools, or similar software is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical construction processes, trade coordination, and field layout techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, architectural, and structural drawings.
  • Detail‑oriented with excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Collaborative team player comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment.
