Job summary

Tighe & Bond in Westwood, MA is seeking a Project Engineer 1 to join our One Water Team and help design and administer water infrastructure projects across the Northeast.

The role emphasizes collaboration with experts, field work, and delivering sustainable wastewater solutions in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum five years of consulting engineering experience in wastewater.
  • PE licensure or ability to obtain within six months.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with drawings, specs, cost opinions and reports from planning to construction.
  • Engage in design discussions on approaches, budgets, and schedules for design-bid-build and design-build.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality outputs.
  • Delegate tasks, mentor staff engineers, manage priorities to milestones.
  • Participate in site visits, field data collection and construction observation.
  • Deliver innovative and sustainable wastewater solutions.

As a Project Engineer 1, you will join our One Water Team in our Westwood, MA office, where you’ll play a key role in delivering vital infrastructure projects across the Northeast. Working with industry experts, you’ll tackle complex challenges that strengthen community resilience and advance environmental sustainability. Our One Water Team and Projects

Our team of 170 dedicated water professionals has earned multiple ACEC Engineering Excellence and ASCE Project Awards. We partner with private, state, and local government clients to enhance drinking water and wastewater infrastructure, ensuring reliable and sustainable systems for communities. As part of our team, you’ll help plan, design, and administer the construction of new and upgraded conveyance systems, treatment plants, and pump stations. You’ll support clients with capital improvement planning, hydraulic modeling, and asset management programs. Our work also includes Long-Term CSO Control Plans, Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plans, Integrated Water Resource Management Plans, and Sewer System Evaluation Studies—driving smarter, more resilient water solutions.

What You’ll Be Doing
Responsibilities
  • Assist with the development of drawings, specifications, opinions of cost, and reports, from conceptual planning to construction
  • Engage in technical discussions about design approaches, budget considerations, and schedule, promoting achievement of client goals on both design-bid-build and design-build projects
  • Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary project teams to develop high-quality deliverables that align with client needs and regulatory requirements
  • Delegate tasks effectively, mentoring staff engineers, and managing priorities to meet project milestones
  • Participate in field work, including site visits, data collection and some construction observation
  • Uphold Tighe & Bond’s commitment to excellence by delivering innovative and sustainable wastewater solutions
What You’ll Need
  • Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
  • At least five years of consulting engineering experience with increasing responsibility in the wastewater industry
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer or the ability to obtain within six months
  • Enthusiasm for learning, self-motivation, and strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Requirements
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and/or Revit on water or wastewater infrastructure projects
  • Experience leading project teams and mentoring junior engineers
