Job summary

NewRange Copper Nickel LLC is seeking a Project Engineer to plan, coordinate, and execute capital and sustaining projects within mining operations. You will collaborate with operations, processing, environmental, safety, procurement, and external consultants to deliver projects safely and efficiently.

The ideal candidate has a BS in Electrical Engineering, 5+ years in heavy industry, and strong proficiency in design documents (P&IDs, PFDs, drawings) and project management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mining/mineral processing/heavy industrial operations.
  • Experience in project management and execution is essential.
  • Knowledge of engineering documentation and safety regulations is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead safety and compliance across project activities.
  • Plan and execute projects from scoping to closeout within budget/schedule.
  • Coordinate with external engineering firms and procurement teams.
  • Engage with operations, maintenance, and environmental teams to ensure alignment.

About The Role

The Project Engineer at NewRange Copper Nickel LLC plays a vital role in supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of both capital and sustaining projects within the mining and mineral processing operations. Reporting directly to the Study Manager or a designated company representative, this role involves working closely within the Project Engineering Department to ensure projects align with strategic objectives, safety standards, and operational requirements. The Project Engineer will manage multiple projects through various phases—from conception to completion—while maintaining strict adherence to scope, schedule, budget, and compliance standards. This position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams including operations, processing, maintenance, environmental, safety, procurement, and external engineering consultants to deliver projects efficiently and safely.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, with a minimum of five years of experience in mining, mineral processing, or heavy industrial operations. Proven experience in project management and execution is essential, along with a strong understanding of engineering documentation such as process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and construction drawings. Knowledge of local building codes, environmental regulations, and safety standards is highly desirable. Certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP) and Professional Engineer (PE) license are considered advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate excellent organizational skills, technical proficiency, and strong communication abilities to effectively coordinate with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance Leadership
  • Promote a safety-first culture by ensuring all project activities comply with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Ensure projects adhere to applicable building codes, environmental regulations, and safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with HSE experts to integrate safety and environmental considerations into project planning and execution.
Project Planning & Execution
  • Manage multiple projects through all phases, including scoping, design, procurement, construction, and closeout.
  • Define project scope, objectives, budgets, and schedules in collaboration with project sponsors and stakeholders.
  • Develop detailed project execution plans and monitor performance against approved capital plans.
  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project timelines and budgets are maintained.
Engineering & Technical Coordination
  • Coordinate with external engineering firms responsible for design and cost estimation activities.
  • Review engineering deliverables such as process flow diagrams, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and construction drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Support equipment selection, vendor evaluation, and procurement processes in partnership with procurement teams.
  • Facilitate effective technical communication among engineering consultants, contractors, vendors, and internal teams.
Stakeholder & Contractor Coordination
  • Maintain strong relationships with operations, maintenance, processing, and engineering teams to ensure project alignment and minimal operational disruption.
  • Coordinate with contractors and service providers to meet project milestones and deliverables.
  • Engage with government agencies for permits and regulatory approvals as required.
Project Controls & Documentation
  • Support cost tracking, schedule management, and change control processes.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, approvals, and reporting records.
  • Use project management tools to monitor progress and communicate updates to leadership effectively.
Other Duties
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support operational needs and project success.
