Job description

RCI Builders is a commercial general contractor headquartered in Thousand Oaks, building across Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Los Angeles Counties. We do about $150M a year in work: ground-up commercial, multifamily, hospitality, private schools, and more. We’re big enough to take on complex projects and small enough that your work gets noticed and your growth is planned.

The Role

We’re hiring a Project Engineer to join a commercial project in the Pacific Palisades as part of the community’s rebuild. You’ll start in our Thousand Oaks office during the early phases and move on site more as the project ramps up. If you’re on the Westside, in the San Fernando Valley, or along the 101 corridor, this role is a good geographic fit.

At RCI Builders, the Project Engineer is the information hub of the project. Drawings, specs, submittals, RFIs, change documentation, and procurement all go through you, between the field, the design team, subcontractors, and the owner. We measure success by how fast and accurately information moves and by how early you spot risk, before it affects cost or schedule. You’ll report to the Project Manager, work closely with the Superintendent, and follow a structured path toward Project Manager.

What You’ll Do
  • Own the RFI process: identify issues in the field, submit RFIs the same day, and distribute responses to every affected trade
  • Log, review, and route subcontractor submittals and shop drawings, checking them against all plan disciplines
  • Build and maintain a detailed procurement log covering lead times, fabrication, shipping, and on-site dates, and flag at-risk items early
  • Document change events in Autodesk Build the day they happen (Change Items, SCOs), and support change order assembly and tracking
  • Run document control: distribute bulletins, ASIs, and revised drawings, and keep every log current
  • Take and distribute OAC and subcontractor coordination meeting minutes, and maintain the constraint log
  • Walk the job with the Superintendent, support quality control, run pre-installation meetings, and manage punch lists
  • Support safety: site orientations, weekly safety audits, and safety documentation
  • Assist with quantity takeoffs, bid coverage, and proposal review, with opportunities to rotate into estimating
  • Build strong relationships with owners, architects, and subcontractors that lead to repeat work
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 1+ years of experience as a Project Engineer with a commercial general contractor
  • Ability to read and understand plans, details, specifications, and building code
  • Experience with Autodesk Build/ACC or Procore, and strong Bluebeam skills
  • Familiarity with OutBuild or similar scheduling software is a plus
  • OSHA 30 and First Aid/CPR, or willingness to obtain
  • Strong organization and follow-through. Close loops the same day and don’t let issues sit overnight.
  • Clear written communication and a team-first, coachable attitude
Why RCI Builders
  • A defined career path from PE to Senior PE to Project Manager, with clear standards for what excellent work looks like at each level
  • Mentorship from experienced PMs, Superintendents, and executives
  • Meaningful work rebuilding the Palisades community
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k), and PTO
  • Eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus
Compensation

$80,000 – $100,000 annually, depending on experience
