Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to support the delivery of a major hospital construction project in Sacramento, California. This position offers an outstanding opportunity to work alongside an experienced project management team on one of Northern California's most sophisticated healthcare construction programs.
The Project Engineer will provide technical, administrative, and project management support throughout all phases of construction. Working directly with the Project Manager and Owner's Representative, the successful candidate will coordinate contractors, consultants, architects, engineers, and healthcare stakeholders to ensure successful execution of project objectives related to quality, safety, cost, schedule, and regulatory compliance.

Project Coordination
- Support the Project Manager in day-to-day management of hospital construction activities.
- Coordinate communication between owners, architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, and regulatory agencies.
- Track project milestones and assist with maintaining overall project schedules.
- Participate in project planning meetings and prepare meeting agendas and minutes.
- Follow up on action items to ensure timely completion.
Construction Administration
- Review Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, shop drawings, and material samples for completeness before routing to design consultants.
- Maintain document control systems for all project correspondence and technical documentation.
- Assist with contract administration and compliance with contract requirements.
- Track pending approvals and coordinate timely responses from project stakeholders.
- Support change order review, documentation, and cost analysis.
Schedule Management
- Monitor contractor progress against baseline schedules.
- Assist with identifying schedule impacts and potential delays.
- Coordinate recovery plans when milestones are at risk.
- Prepare schedule status reports for project leadership.
Cost Control
- Assist with project budgeting and cost tracking.
- Review contractor payment applications for accuracy and progress.
- Maintain change order logs and budget forecasts.
- Support financial reporting and monthly project cost updates.
- Coordinate invoice processing and consultant contract administration.
Field Coordination
- Conduct regular project site walks with contractors and consultants.
- Monitor construction progress for conformance with plans and specifications.
- Document field observations and track resolution of outstanding issues.
- Coordinate inspections and testing activities.
- Assist with punch list development and project closeout activities.
Quality Management
- Support implementation of quality assurance and quality control procedures.
- Monitor contractor compliance with project specifications.
- Coordinate resolution of construction deficiencies.
- Maintain project quality documentation.
- Coordinate construction activities within an active hospital environment while minimizing operational disruptions.
- Support Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) implementation and monitoring.
- Assist with Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM) coordination.
- Ensure contractor compliance with healthcare facility requirements.
- Coordinate work with hospital operations staff to maintain patient care continuity.
Safety
- Promote a strong safety culture throughout the project.
- Participate in project safety meetings.
- Monitor contractor compliance with site safety requirements.
- Escalate safety concerns to project leadership.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare weekly and monthly project reports.
- Maintain project logs including:
- RFIs
- Change Orders
- Meeting Minutes
- Action Items
- Potential Claims
- Budget Tracking
- Schedule Updates
- Develop presentation materials for owner meetings.
Project Closeout
- Track completion of punch list items.
- Assist with commissioning coordination.
- Verify receipt of warranties, operation manuals, and as-built drawings.
- Support project turnover to hospital facilities staff.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Engineering, or related field.
- 2-6+ years of construction project engineering or project management experience.
- Experience supporting commercial, institutional, healthcare, higher education, or public works construction projects.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.
- Knowledge of construction sequencing and project delivery methods.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with Procore, Bluebeam Revu, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar construction management software.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
