The Project Engineer plays a key role in supporting our paper mill operations in Pine Bluff, AR by leading and executing capital projects that improve safety, reliability, productivity, and sustainability. This role is highly collaborative and involves managing projects from concept through startup, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, and performance objectives are achieved. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong technical and project management skills who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position works closely with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Environmental, and Engineering teams, as well as external contractors and vendors, to successfully deliver projects that support the mill's strategic objectives.
Lead the planning, design, execution, and startup of capital and expense projects across the mill. Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, and technical specifications to ensure successful project delivery. Coordinate engineering activities with internal stakeholders, contractors, vendors, and equipment suppliers. Manage project timelines and costs while identifying and mitigating risks to project success. Oversee construction activities, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards. Support equipment installation, commissioning, startup, and performance validation activities. Evaluate opportunities for process, equipment, and infrastructure improvements to increase operational efficiency and reliability. Prepare and present project updates, business cases, and status reports to leadership teams. Ensure engineering designs and project execution comply with applicable codes, regulations, and company standards. Manage multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrating strong organizational skills and effective prioritization.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. Project engineering or capital project experience in a manufacturing, industrial, pulp and paper, chemical, or related environment preferred. Experience managing engineering projects from concept through commissioning and startup. Strong understanding of project management principles, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, and contractor management. Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, SAP, or similar engineering and project management tools is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across multiple departments. Willingness to work flexible hours and provide support during project installations, outages, and startups as needed. Strong commitment to safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
