Job summary

Georgia-Pacific LLC's Naheola Paper Mill in Pennington, Alabama, seeks a Project Engineer to oversee capital and non-capital projects and drive mill-wide success. You will develop scopes, manage budgets, schedules, risks, and vendor contracts while ensuring safety and quality through all project phases.

The role requires hands-on leadership in a dynamic industrial setting with weekend/on-call responsibilities and close collaboration with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to deliver

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in an engineering, maintenance or operations function within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Willing and able to work an extended schedule during critical execution periods, mill outages and while being on weekend or holiday call.

Responsibilities

  • Promote safety through proactive involvement in safety training, adherence to safety policies, and inclusion of company safety initiatives in project deliverables
  • Develop project scope, objectives, and goals
  • Prepare budget based on scope of work and resource requirements
  • Track project costs to meet budget
  • Develop and manage a detailed project schedule and work plan
  • Identify and manage potential risks and liabilities, provide input to risk management plans, and anticipate risks that could adversely impact project success or mill operations
  • Perform quality control throughout the project to maintain standards expected, specifications cited, and relevant governing body regulatory requirements – ensure proper acceptance tests and inspection criteria are project integrated
  • Utilize industry best practices, techniques, and standards throughout entire project execution
  • Participate in the development of design and installation specifications along with commissioning plans
  • Participate in the development of criteria for, and evaluation of, equipment and technical suppliers
  • Manage contracts with vendors and suppliers by assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverables
  • Provide project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress – communicate with project owners to ensure alignment to project goals

Project Engineer – Naheola Paper Mill

Georgia Pacific is seeking a Project Engineer to join our engineering team at the Naheola Paper Mill operation in Pennington, Alabama. This position is responsible for overseeing the successful completion of capital and non‑capital projects, focusing on mill‑wide success.

Our Team

Georgia‑Pacific’s Naheola Mill located in Pennington, Alabama is a manufacturing site producing a wide range of consumer products, including Angel Soft bath tissue, Sparkle paper towels, and bleached paperboard used in Dixie paper cups and plates. The mill is the largest employer in the community and supports local outreach, workforce development and education. The area offers recreational opportunities such as hunting, fishing, boating, and is close to Gulf Coast beaches.

What You Will Do

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field
  • Experience working in an engineering, maintenance or operations function within an industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Willing and able to work an extended schedule during critical execution periods, mill outages and while being on weekend or holiday call
