General Sheet Metal (GSM) is seeking a talented Project Engineer to join our growing team!

Position Summary

The Project Engineer serves as a key liaison between the Client, Project Manager, and Subcontractors to ensure construction projects progress safely, accurately, and efficiently. This role is responsible for supporting the successful execution of a project from preconstruction through closeout by coordinating essential administrative, technical, and field support functions. The Project Engineer plays a critical role in document control, submittal and RFI management, procurement, change orders, contract administration, issue resolution, safety auditing, and field coordination. As a Project Engineer you would provide support for the Special Projects Team through all phases of the project life cycle to ensure the successful execution of projects (safely, on time, and within budget). The Special‑Projects team is fast‑paced; therefore, it is imperative to maintain constant communication with all personnel related to the projects to avoid or minimize potential issues.

  • Complete understanding of each project’s scope and deliverables.
  • Assist Project Managers (PM) and field personnel in managing project goals and deliverables consistent with customer expectations and corporate objectives.
  • Assist PMs in developing and tracking all project control related documents (including submittals, RFI’s, change orders, etc.)
  • Assist PMs in managing scope, schedule, budget (margins) and safety.
  • Assists in preparation of bid packages and procurement.
  • Complete management of project permit process including scheduling of final inspections.
  • Develop and maintain job files and as‑builts.
  • Maintain job tracking files including submittals, RFIs, change orders, purchase orders, and subcontracts.
  • Prepare job closeout documents.
  • Support Project Managers with various other tasks as requested.
  • Help maintain construction schedule based on subcontractor progress, material delivery, and installation progress.
  • Timely notifications to Manager and project teams of pending problems/ challenges/issues etc.
  • Special projects require regular check‑ins. Each project could require a different cadence.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3‑5 years of relevant experience in the construction industry and High School/GED diploma.
  • Preferred but not required, relevant industry certifications / Associate Degree / technical school.
  • Possess excellent verbal, written communications and active listening skills.
  • Detail‑oriented and sets high standards for accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, email, excel spreadsheet and word processing, Smartsheet.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, time management, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Understanding of document control and tracking processes.
Travel

May travel to the construction site usually within a 50‑mile radius. Personal vehicle to be utilized with mileage reimbursement at the current IRS rate.
