Job summary

W. M. Jordan Company, a family-owned construction firm, seeks a Commercial Construction Project Engineer to support project coordination, scheduling, and documentation across Virginia and the Carolinas.

Responsibilities

  • Advocate in applying W. M. Jordan’s Safety and Health Management Program.
  • Collaborate with Project Manager and Superintendent on project operations and processes.
  • Organize and manage submittal processes and logs (submittals, RFIs, material procurement).
  • Coordinate with trade partners, subcontractors, and suppliers for on-site requirements.
  • Initiate, research, and track RFIs; field questions related to shop drawings and contracts.
  • Manage document control methods (logs, contracts, field/electronic copies).
  • Assist with Lean processes on projects; participate in progress meetings and minutes.
  • Support project closure (OM Manuals, Owner Training, warranties).
  • Contribute to development and updating of project schedule as delegated.

Duties and Responsibilities :
  • Be an advocate in application on W. M. Jordan’s Safety and Health Management Program
  • Collaborate with Project Manager and Superintendent in the application of company processes and project operations
  • Organize and manage submittal processes (log development, processing, etc.)
  • Manage project coordination with all project trade partners, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Coordinate material delivery requirements with superintendent, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Initiate, research, and track Requests for Information (RFI’s)
  • Field questions from subcontractors and suppliers relative to shop drawings and contract requirements
  • Manage various document control methods such as submittal logs, material procurement logs, RFI logs, contract documents (field and electronic copies)
  • Assist with Lean processes implemented on projects
  • Participate in and/or facilitate jobsite progress meetings to include documenting minutes
  • Organize and manage project closure requirements (Operations and Maintenance Manuals, Owner Training, Attic Stock and Warranties)
  • Participate in development and updating or maintaining of the project schedule as delegated by project manager
  • Assist with proposal management (research, follow-up) as delegated by project manager
  • Track green building requirements (as required)
  • Participation in trainings and company meetings to facilitate individual and company growth
  • Develop industry relationships and expand professional networks
Qualifications and Experience :
  • Experience as a commercial construction Project Engineer
  • Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field, OR two (2) years commercial construction experience preferred
  • OSHA training preferred
  • Ability to read and understand technical specifications and architectural drawings
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, BlueBeam and various scheduling software (MS Project, Primavera, Phoenix)
  • Experience with Building Information Modeling
  • Excellent listening skills and strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Active participant in a team environment
