Job summary

Cityscape Recruitment is seeking a Project Engineer for a heavy civil construction team in New Jersey, with 2+ years’ underground utilities experience to coordinate field operations and support project controls.

Responsibilities include assisting managers, coordinating underground utilities, preparing submittals and RFIs, tracking schedules and budgets, and maintaining project records. BS in CM or CE required; proficiency in Procore, HCSS, Bluebeam is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • 2+ years of construction experience, preferably heavy civil or site development.
  • Experience with underground utilities (water, sewer, drainage) preferred.
  • Understanding of drawings, specs, and project sequencing.
  • Familiarity with Procore, HCSS, Bluebeam; strong organizational skills.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

My client is a trusted contractor specializing in heavy civil construction and site development. They’re known for quality workmanship and a strong safety culture, delivering complex projects that require precision, coordination, and technical expertise. They’re seeking a project engineer experienced with underground utilities to join their irrigation division.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role is ideal for someone with at least 2+ years of experience, particularly with underground utilities, who is looking to grow within a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The Project Engineer will play a key role in coordinating field operations, managing documentation, and supporting project controls to ensure successful project delivery.

  • Assist Project Managers and Superintendents in all phases of heavy civil construction projects
  • Support the coordination and installation of underground utilities (water, sewer, storm systems)
  • Prepare and manage submittals, RFIs, and project documentation
  • Track project progress, schedules, and budgets
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and assist with cost tracking and forecasting
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and field crews
  • Participate in site visits to monitor work progress, safety compliance, and quality standards
  • Assist in resolving field issues and ensuring alignment with project plans and specifications
  • Maintain accurate project records and reports
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in construction, preferably in heavy civil or site development
  • Experience with underground utilities (water, sewer, drainage systems) strongly preferred
  • Understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and project sequencing
  • Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, HCSS, Bluebeam)
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work both in the field and office environments
