Actalent in Annapolis Junction, MD is seeking a Project Engineer to lead mechanical design projects from requirements to production release. You will translate customer needs into manufacturable, cost-conscious solutions and coordinate all project requirements with internal teams and customers.

The role requires a BS in Mechanical Engineering with 4+ years of design experience and SolidWorks proficiency. Onsite, with travel opportunities and a collaborative team of ~16 engineers.

Competenze

• BS in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 4+ years of mechanical design experience.
• SolidWorks proficiency including parts, assemblies, drawings, configurations and BOM.
• Understanding of CNC machining and sheet metal fabrication.
• Experience in mechanical design and design for manufacturability.
• Experience in customer communication and organization.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and CMOs is a plus.

Job Title: Project Engineer

We are seeking a customer-focused Project Engineer to manage mechanical design projects from initial technical requirements through customer approval and production release. The Project Engineer will translate customer needs into innovative, practical, and cost-conscious manufacturing solutions. This position is responsible for coordinating project requirements, developing manufacturable designs, preparing complete engineering and production documentation, and providing technical support throughout the manufacturing process.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for assigned customers and projects.
• Gather and clarify customer requirements, including function, performance, budget, schedule, and design intent.
• Manage assigned projects from initial concept through design approval, quoting, production release, and manufacturing support.
• Create accurate 3D CAD models for components, subassemblies, and complete assemblies.
• Apply design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly principles throughout the project.
• Incorporate customer and internal feedback while maintaining proper revision control.
• Create complete 2D drawings for manufactured parts, subassemblies, and final assemblies.
• Develop accurate, indented bills of materials covering manufactured parts, purchased components, hardware, raw materials, and outsourced processes.
• Prepare complete production-release packages that allow parts and assemblies to be produced with minimal additional clarification.
• Support make-versus-buy decisions and identify opportunities to reduce cost or lead time.
• Conduct clear project handoffs with production management and answer technical questions from shop personnel.
• Support prototypes, fixtures, first-article inspections, testing, engineering changes, and design revisions.
• Complete assigned work within established project budgets and schedules.
• Accurately track engineering time and design-related costs against project expectations.
• Communicate anticipated overruns, delays, and unresolved questions early.

Essential Skills

• BS in Mechanical Engineering
• 4+ years of mechanical design experience
• Proficiency in SolidWorks including parts, assemblies, drawings, configurations, and bill of materials
• Understanding of CNC machining and sheet metal fabrication
• Experience with mechanical engineering, mechanical design, and design for manufacturability

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in customer communication and organization
• Ability to manage multiple projects
• Contract Manufacturing Organization (CMO) experience

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $100000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
