Job summary

Kokosing Industrial, Inc. is seeking an onsite Construction Project Engineer to plan, develop, coordinate, and manage engineering activities for industrial projects, including water/wastewater plants, in the Baltimore–DC area.

Role emphasizes strict adherence to project schedules using Primavera P6, cost control, and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams to deliver quality construction outcomes. PE is preferred but not required; strong communication is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent is required.
  • 5+ years of heavy industrial construction engineering experience is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage project engineering and personnel planning/administration.
  • Ensure compliance with project requirements and support the construction schedule (Primavera P6).
  • Provide technical support for construction planning, design interpretation, and method application.
  • Develop and administer project engineering procedures and controls (submittals, RFIs, expediting, subcontractor payments).
  • Represent company in A/E, client and project management meetings.
  • Interface with on-site departments to resolve issues and maintain project schedule quality.
  • Oversee pre-construction, design-build services and business development for the project.
  • Coordinate with the Superintendent to control job costs and budgets.
  • Prepare and submit monthly cost, income, and cash flow projections.
  • Execute and approve subcontractor requisitions and vendor invoices.
  • Coordinate and assist in change orders and claims settlements.
  • Respond quickly to issues; manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Maintain project correspondence files and subcontractor insurance compliance.
  • Perform additional assignments as directed.

Job description

Summary

Working onsite with the Project Team to plan, develop, coordinate, and manage onsite construction engineering activities for industrial projects—primarily Water/Wastewater Treatment plant construction but also factories/production facilities, data centers, focused mostly in Northern Virginia, District of Columbia (DC) and Baltimore area.

Responsibilities
  • Manage project engineering and related personnel functions and activities, including personnel planning and administration, work assignments, disciplinary actions, etc.
  • Ensure project engineering activities comply with company and contract requirements and support overall construction schedule (Primavera P6).
  • Provide technical support for construction effort including participation in construction planning and design; interpretation of design; application of construction methods; resolution and documentation of design conflicts; contractibility reviews, etc.
  • Develop, implement and administer project engineering procedures and other work controlling documents (submittals, RFIs, expediting material deliveries, payment of subcontractors/vendors and owner pay requests).
  • Represent company, project and/or department during A/E, client and project management meetings.
  • Interface all on‑site departments as required to resolve problems, ensure quality of construction, etc. in support of overall project schedule.
  • Oversee all pre‑construction services, design‑build services, and business development for the project.
  • Work with Superintendent to control job costs and production budgets.
  • Prepare and submit accurate and timely monthly cost, income, and cash flow projections.
  • Execute and approve subcontractor requisitions and vendor invoices.
  • Coordinate, price and assist Project Manager in settlement of change orders and claims.
  • Respond to issues quickly; proactive in problem solving; handle multiple tasks.
  • Manage time and organize office and filing system efficiently; organize and maintain accurate project correspondence files.
  • Maintain subcontractor insurance certificate compliance.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent technical training and related experience.
  • (5)+ years of similar construction engineering experience in Heavy Industrial projects.
Skills and Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of construction engineering technology, codes, standards, etc., plus an in‑depth understanding of the interdependence and relationship between other functional units required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, plus demonstrated ability to manage a team of varied disciplines.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred but not required.
