SW North America’s Project Engineers’ is responsible for managing the Technical Requirements for Turn-key Projects on Customer Orders and for assisting the Sales Manager by application of machine capabilities, fixture concepts and cutting tools to aid in the sale of products, based on his/her experience and competence.
The Project Engineer performs a variety of duties, including, but not limited to:
- Review RFQ’s to determine suitability of SW products to the specific applications.
- Creates response to the RFQ’s, which could include time study, machine & components, fixture concept, tooling recommendation.
- Creates and maintains costing summaries for machine & components, fixture concepts
- Supports the Sales Manager in providing of the quotation / proposal, including time study, fixture concept, tooling recommendation, proposal related information such as work area layout, technical machine data, etc.
- Supports the Sales Manager in presentation of the proposals to customers.
- Communicates between SWNA, SWD and SWA for efficient information exchanging such as existing proposals quoted globally, customer information, pricing, technical data.
- Supports the Program Manager as the technical lead of the project
- Works with the Cutting Tool Engineer and Workholding Engineer to finalize technical problems and communicate timing changes to the Program Manager.
- Participates in technical reviews of inspection results and gives input towards achieving quality goals
- Communicates technical concerns internally, between departments
- Communicates with customers and distributor as required to support specific projects.
- Saves and maintains proposal related data in SWNA folder directory.
- Updates proposal related information in the Quote-Log file
- Some domestic and International travel can be required for project support, training, etc.
- Strives for continuous improvement within proposal engineering department through submission of suggestions including sharing of information with co-workers and creating of a teamwork environment.
- Finishes proposals in timely manner.
- Leads few projects/proposals at the same time.
- Other duties as required by manager.
Qualifications & Abilities
- Mechanical, Mechanical Technology or Manufacturing Engineer degree and/or 5+ years machine tool experience.
- 2+ years working experience as application engineer
- Skilled in reading and understanding of 2D blueprints, 3D models and GD&T Requirements
- Working knowledge of CAD
- Working knowledge of CAM Systems (Mastercam, NX) preferred
- Excellent personal relation skills and communication skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently, prioritizing them appropriately
- Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook proficient
- Good organizational skills and Detail-Oriented
- The ability to read, write, and speak English
- German speaking ability preferred, but not required
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Primary work area is a controlled office environment, requiring the ability to sit for extended periods of time.
Classification & Compensation

- The pay range varies, depending on experience, skills, abilities, and length of service with the Company
