Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Project Engineer in Lexington, KY to lead a small team of engineers in a modernized electrical testing lab. You will drive projects from concept to completion, ensuring safety, quality and on-time delivery, while engaging clients and supporting business development.

The role combines technical leadership with people management, scheduling, invoicing, and collaboration with Sales and Project Management to meet revenue goals.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4+ years of professional engineering experience.
  • Experience managing a small team and deadlines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or related field.
  • Strong client-facing experience and business development exposure.
  • Knowledge of EMC testing and lab safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of approximately 4-5 engineers, providing day-to-day direction, coaching, and support.
  • Manage project and team schedules to ensure all testing projects meet deadline milestones and are completed on time.
  • Drive daily projects from initiation through completion, ensuring team members follow all safety and quality protocols.
  • Interface directly with clients to discuss current and upcoming projects, clarify requirements, and address client issues and concerns.
  • Partner with Sales team members to prepare accurate and timely quotes for testing and engineering services.
  • Monitor efficiency and productivity within the assigned area and implement improvements to optimize team performance.
  • Ensure timely submission of invoicing and assist with P&L oversight, including forecasting, managing costs, and supporting revenue goals.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Project Management teams to resolve non-conformance issues and maintain high customer satisfaction.
  • Promote new business opportunities and innovations in testing services and lab capabilities.
  • Communicate schedules, forecasts, and project status updates to leadership to support revenue targets and resource planning.
  • Assist Engineering and Operations leadership with additional duties and strategic initiatives as needed.
  • Support cradle-to-grave testing projects, overseeing planning, execution, documentation, and completion of EMC and electrical tests.
  • Participate in business development activities, including relationship-building visits to other facilities and client sites.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of lab processes, reporting methods, and testing methodologies.
  • Guide new hires through ramp-up, helping them learn lab processes, reporting standards, and client engagement practices.

Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 4+ years of professional experience in engineering or a closely related technical field.
  • Proven experience managing a small team, including responsibility for deadlines, project scheduling, and resolving client-facing issues.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (such as electrical, electronics, or a related discipline).
  • Demonstrated aptitude or experience in client/customer-facing responsibilities, including new business opportunities, handling customer issues, and relationship management.
  • Strong electrical engineering foundation with the ability to understand and oversee EMC and electrical test activities.
  • Experience supervising technical staff and coordinating multiple concurrent projects.
  • Ability to manage project and team schedules effectively and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Comfort communicating with clients, internal stakeholders, and cross-functional teams in a professional manner.
  • US citizenship.
  • Clean driving record suitable for business travel.
  • Solid understanding of quality and safety protocols in a technical or laboratory setting.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation, invoicing, and forecasting.
  • Ability to interpret technical requirements and support compliance-focused testing activities.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and problem-solving within an engineering or test environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Degree in engineering with a strong technical background, ideally in electrical or related fields.
  • Experience working in a lab, testing, or R&D environment, particularly in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
  • Business development or selling experience, including identifying new opportunities and supporting commercial discussions.
  • Hands-on experience with test planning and execution, including mechanical testing and use of test equipment.
  • Exposure to EMC testing, EMC compliance, and related documentation and reporting practices.
  • background in electrical engineering, compliance, troubleshooting, test engineering, validation, and test quality assurance.
  • Experience with telecommunications systems or information communications technology and associated testing.
  • Project management experience, including coordinating resources, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Comfort working with a variety of electrical products such as appliances, consumer electronics, lighting, medical devices, HVACR, industrial equipment, and energy transmission and distribution systems.
  • Ability to support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute ideas for lab modernization and innovation.
  • Willingness to relocate, with relocation support available as needed.

This is a Permanent position based out of Lexington, KY.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $105000.00 - $120000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
