Job summary

Redtail Renewables, Houston-based RNG developer, seeks a Project Engineer to support new RNG facility development. The role focuses on engineering and technical support to ensure facilities are designed and constructed per standards, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and reliability.

You will oversee design documents, coordinate with contractors, and contribute to commissioning and startup activities, while addressing efficiency improvements and future production performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in process facilities with high pressure equipment or energy systems.
  • Knowledge of safety standards (API, ASME, NACE) and codes.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD, and design software (e.g. ProMax).
  • Ability to operate with minimal supervision and manage multiple assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Advocate for process and operations safety in RNG facility design.
  • Review commissioning and start-up activities for new projects.
  • Develop engineering standards for facility designs.
  • Modify and oversee design documentation (P&ID, 3D models, single-line diagrams).

Job description

Redtail Renewables is a private equity-backed renewable natural gas (RNG) developer focused on converting landfill gas into clean, low-carbon fuel. Our team has developed and financed multiple RNG projects across the U.S. in partnership with leading waste management companies, utilities, and institutional investors. Position Summary

We are seeking a Project Engineer to support the new development of Renewable Natural Gas facilities. This position will provide engineering and technical support dedicated to new development projects, ensuring that new facilities and facility modifications are scoped, designed, and constructed in accordance with all applicable Company, Industry, and Regulatory standards and requirements. The position will maintain and demonstrate a high regard for personal safety, fellow employees' safety, the general public's safety, and safe operation of facilities. This position reports to the VP of Projects & Operations.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Advocate and provide leadership for process and operations safety in the design of new RNG facilities.
  • Review and contribute to commissioning and start-up activities for new development projects.
  • Develop engineering and construction standards for new facility designs.
  • Modify and maintain, or oversee contractors to modify and maintain, design documents such as P&ID's, 3D models, single line diagrams, C&E Matrix, and other necessary design documents.
  • Provide technical support throughout the design and construction phases of new development projects.
  • Lead initiatives to optimize new facility designs, improve efficiency, and debottleneck equipment prior to startup.
  • Report project engineering progress, design deficiencies, and commissioning results in a timely manner.
  • Develop solutions to improve the reliability and future production performance of new facilities.
  • Provide technical review of MOC's and Operations procedures in preparation for new facility handover.
  • Specify, configure, and commission plant PLC programming, SCADA systems, and other communications and control systems for new facilities.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (chemical, mechanical, civil, petroleum, electrical).
  • Minimum of 5 years industry experience, with preference given to experience in facilities with high pressure equipment, large rotating equipment, high temperature heat medium systems, pressure swing adsorption systems, membrane/media technologies, cryogenic/NGL processing, air cooled exchangers, and other similar equipment.
  • Knowledge of landfill gas collection systems, PSA process, compression, and natural gas safety standards and codes with an acute sensitivity to safety issues in a hazardous environment are preferred.
  • Technical proficiency and working knowledge of applicable Industry standards (API, ASME, NACE, etc.)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer software applications (e.g. MS Office suite, AutoCAD, ProMax, etc.)
  • A high degree of motivation with minimal direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively solve problems within a specific time frame.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle and prioritize multiple assignments.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Tasks may be carried out in a plant environment with indoor and outdoor weather conditions.
  • May be required to stand, walk, sit, ascend/descend elevated platforms, use hand tools, and other manual tasks. May occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Qualified candidate must have a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

Location: Houston, TX

Employment Type: Full-time

Work Hours: Monday - Friday; standard business hours. Regular travel to project sites is expected as new development projects are scoped, designed, and constructed.

Compensation: Competitive base salary + performance incentives
