Job summary

Bunge in Destrehan, LA, seeks a Project Engineer to design and construct new equipment and modify existing systems to meet safety, commercial, and efficiency goals. You will coordinate in‑house design with outside consultants, select equipment, procure, and administer construction contracts to optimize plant performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering as listed.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in plant operations, maintenance and safety.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Word, Excel and Project.
• Knowledge of NFPA, OSHA and EPA regulations preferred.
• Strong problem solving and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Actively participate in and lead facility safety activities.
• Ensure safety requirements are followed in design and troubleshooting.
• Conceptually design and perform feasibility studies for new projects.
• Develop cost estimates and DCF models for large projects.
• Manage outside engineers/contractors and coordinate with the plant.

Location: Destrehan, Louisiana, United States

A Day in the Life

The project engineer will be involved in the design and construction of new projects and modification of existing equipment and efficiency improvements as required to meet safety, commercial expectations, maximize operating efficiencies and maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.

The work will include performing in-house design and coordination with outside consultants and contractors as necessary for successful project completion. Equipment selection, procurement and construction contract administration are typical duties of the project engineer.

What You'll Be Doing

• Actively and enthusiastically participate in and lead facility safety activities.
• When designing projections and/or troubleshooting equipment, ensure that safety requirements of the facility are followed.
• Conceptually design and perform feasibility studies for new projects.
• Develop cost estimates for projects.
• Develop DCF models for large projects.
• Manage outside consulting engineers/contractors and coordinate project activities with the plant.
• Develop equipment specifications and prepare construction bid packages.
• Ensure project schedules and cost projections are achieved.
• Complete problem solving and troubleshooting as needed and as requested by plant management.
• Catalog and control all plant drawings and P&IDs.

Skills/Experience Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, civil, agricultural, electrical, or chemical engineering required.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in plant operations, maintenance and safety is required.
• Proficiency with applicable computer software packages including AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel and Project.
• Knowledge of design codes and government regulations affecting industry including NFPA 36, NFPA 61, OSHA and EPA is preferred.
• Demonstrates mechanical aptitude and interest with strong problem‑solving skills.
• Demonstrates organizational and planning capabilities.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Collaborative team player.
• Has worked on projects of $1M to $2.5M that are complex projects impacting multiple departments.
• Completed projects successfully on time and on budget that met expectations and responsibilities including safety compliance during project construction, during startup and when fully operational.
• Able to complete lengthy pre‑planning including actively reviewing project costs for cost savings opportunities. Quantifiable improvement in KPI efficiency with value creation annually at 250K.
• Participation in making sure industry best practice questions are being asked on local plant capital and major expense projects.
• Able to work autonomously with minimal support.
• Must be able to take on call duty.
