Job summary

OxyChem in Geismar, LA is seeking a Project Engineer to lead maintenance‑driven capital projects and support safe, compliant operations.

You will coordinate with operations, review drawings, and manage budgets while mentoring junior staff. Strong communication and problem‑solving are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
  • 2–10 years of project engineering experience, or at least 1 year with OxyChem.
  • Ability to build relationships with project sponsors, government agencies, outside engineering, construction, and equipment supply firms.
  • Capability to handle multiple assignments with projects ranging from $50K to $3MM.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel; additional skills in PowerPoint, Access, Project, and SAP are advantageous.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to read, write, and speak in English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and respond to callouts on a non‑routine basis.
  • Professional engineering license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Act as liaison with operations, managing project scopes, schedules, and costs.
  • Define and coordinate the work of engineering disciplines, review and approve drawings and vendor submittals.
  • Prepare procedures, specifications, bid packages, and requisition materials and equipment.
  • Coordinate construction, oversee project completion, and transition to operations.
  • Manage project documentation, database, close‑out, and archive.
  • Communicate design and technical issues to stakeholders via reports, memos, and presentations.
  • Train, direct, and review the work of lower‑level technical staff.
  • Recommend improvements to engineering functions and new methods.
