Job summary

Nextpower seeks a Project Engineer for Fremont, CA, onsite, reporting to the Lead of Project Engineering. You will work with engineers and designers on design and engineering for utility-scale PV projects from development to construction support.

You will develop tracker layouts, CAD blocks, mechanical sets, BOMs, and support value engineering while coordinating with global teams across the US and India. A BS in engineering and 3–5 years of experience are required.

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil/Structural/Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred.
  • 3–5 years of relevant engineering experience on commercial or utility-scale projects (solar/renewables preferred).
  • Thorough knowledge of drafting standards.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

  • Provide design support to develop tracker layouts, CAD blocks, mechanical sets, and full construction plan sets.
  • Review site information, design inputs, and assist in selecting product types based on site conditions.
  • Collaborate with engineers in India to update product configurations and drafting standards.
  • Conduct value engineering to reduce project costs.
  • Coordinate with Designers in other regions to update product standards and design changes.
  • Learn topography and hydrology analysis to determine tracker placement and priority tasks.

Job Description: Project Engineer | Fremont, CA - Onsite

In this position, you will report to the Lead of Project Engineering, located in Fremont, CA. Working directly with key accounts located around the globe and to manage day to day issues on commercial and utility scale PV projects from the development stage to construction support. The position will work with a team of engineers and designers making all decisions relating to Design & Engineering for Nextpower's projects including but not limited to: site plans, mechanical sheet sets, foundation drawings, bill of materials, value engineering, and various other design or engineering tasks and decisions to support project quoting and execution phases. Further this position will be interfacing with engineering teams located in the US and India as well as Sales, Project Management, and R&D teams at Nextpower's offices around the world.

Role Responsibilities
  • Provide design support to develop tracker layouts, CAD blocks, mechanical sets, and full construction plan sets.
  • Review pertinent site information, design inputs, and assist in selecting appropriate product types based on site conditions.
  • Work with a team of engineers located in our India office updating to new product configurations and drafting standards and potentially developing automation procedures.
  • Conduct value engineering exercises to lower costs on an individual project basis.
  • Coordinate with Nextpower's Designers in other regions to create and update new product standards, design changes, and project related issues.
  • Learn topography analysis, hydrology analysis, in order to determine best tracker placement.
  • Prioritize tasks to provide the best support to our internal and external customers.
Requirements
  • BS in Civil/Structural/Mechanical Engineering, or related, preferred
  • 3-5 years of relevant engineering experience supporting commercial or utility-scale projects, preferably within the solar or renewable energy industry
  • Thorough knowledge of drafting standards
  • Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated team player
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in AutoCAD Civil a plus
  • Knowledge of construction sheet sets and project design of PV plants a plus
  • At least 1 year of relevant work experience in the solar industry preferred
  • Passion for solar a plus
