Job summary

Wakefern Food Corp. is seeking an experienced Engineer to provide support from project conception through completion within the Retail Engineering Department. You will collaborate with Real Estate, Corporate Management and Wakefern divisions, coordinating with external partners and ensuring project success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of project experience in the construction industry.
  • Experience with supermarket construction sites preferred.
  • Proficient with MS Office; exposure to scheduling software.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; ability to lead meetings and drive outcomes.
  • Exceptional analytical skills; able to decipher data and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously; strong problem solving.
  • Business acumen and sound judgement in job responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop scope of work for projects by reviewing project with members/subsidiary.
  • Develop bid documents and review contractor bids.
  • Review and correct Architectural and MEP plans per Wakefern specifications.
  • Determine project schedule by studying project plan and specifications.
  • Maintain project schedule by monitoring progress and coordinating activities.
  • Control project costs by approving expenditures and administering contracts.
  • Prepare project status reports.
  • Maintain safe working environment by enforcing procedures and regulations.
  • Maintain project data base on company server (Close-Out procedures, invoices, budgets).
  • Maintain company reputation by complying with regulations.
  • Coordinate site location research including new store, remodel and CapEx analyses.
  • Coordinate weekly job meetings and communication to project team.

As a member of the Retail Engineering Department, you will be responsible to provide Engineering support from project conception through completion. You will work closely with various internal customers such as the Real Estate Team, Corporate Management, and Wakefern Divisions whose objectives closely align with the goals and projects associated with this team. In this position, you would be engaging with multiple external customers including ShopRite, PriceRite, The Fresh Grocer, Dearborn Markets, Gourmet Garage, Dibruno Bros, and Morton Williams banners, some Subsidiaries and outside Consultants (such as architects & engineers). This role requires a strong strategic mindset with critical thinking and in depth project management skills.

Essential Functions
  • Develop scope of work for projects by reviewing project with members/subsidiary.
  • Develop bid documents.
  • Review and qualify bids from contractors.
  • Review and correct Architectural and MEP plans per Wakefern specifications.
  • Determine project schedule by studying project plan and specifications, calculating time requirements, and sequencing project elements.
  • Maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, and resolving problems.
  • Control project costs by approving expenditures and administering contractor contracts.
  • Prepare project status reports.
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintain project data base on company server by saving all the data (Job Close-Out procedures, invoices, budgets, etc)
  • Maintain company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related goals.
  • Conduct site location research including new store, remodel and replacement analyses which will include CapEx spend.
  • Coordinate weekly job meetings and oversee all communication to entire project team (including coordination of other divisions require for the project)
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s of Science in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or other related discipline required
  • 5+ years of project experience working in the construction industry required
  • Experience with supermarket construction sites preferred
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite of tools, exposure to schedule software
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; ability to lead important meetings and establish actionable expected outcomes. Comprehends and conveys information clearly and effectively
  • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to decipher data, formulate conclusions and make sound decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Strong problems solving skills are required
  • Conveys strong business acumen, uses sound judgement and decision making skills to manage job responsibilities
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to climb roof access ladders
  • Ability to drive long distances and sit in a car for extensive periods of time
  • Ability to monitor computer screens, access interactive meetings with camera and sound
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule as established by the company

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $1,693 — $2,897. Placement in the range depends on several factors, including experience, skills, education, geography, and budget considerations.
