Job summary

Kokosing is seeking an onsite Project Engineer for Detroit-based water/wastewater industrial projects. You will plan, develop, and coordinate construction engineering activities with the project team to support schedules and budgets.

The ideal candidate has a civil engineering or construction management background, 2–3 years of experience in heavy industrial construction, and strong communication skills. PE registration is preferred but not required. Kokosing is an equal opportunity employer.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, coordinate, and manage onsite construction engineering activities for industrial projects (Water/Wastewater focus).
• Ensure engineering activities support project schedule and contract requirements (e.g., Primavera P6).
• Prepare cost, income, and cash flow projections; manage subcontracts, vendors, and change orders.

Job Description:

Working onsite with the Project Team to plan, develop, coordinate, and manage onsite construction engineering activities for Industrial projects – primarily Water/Wastewater Treatment plant construction focused in the Detroit market.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage project engineering and related personnel functions and activities, including personnel planning and administration, work assignments, disciplinary actions, etc.
• Ensure project engineering activities comply with company and contract requirements and support overall construction schedule (Primavera P6).
• Provide technical support for construction effort including participation in construction planning and design; interpretation of design; application of construction methods; resolution and documentation of deign conflicts; contractibility reviews, etc.
• Develop, implement and administer project engineering procedures and other work controlling documents (submittals, RFI’s, expediting material deliveries, payment of Subcontractors/Vendors and Owner pay requests).
• Represent company, project and/or department during A/E, client and project management meetings.
• Interface all on-site departments as required to resolve problems, ensure quality of construction, etc. in support of overall project schedule.
• Oversee all pre-construction services, design-build services, and business development for the project.
• Work withSuperintendent tocontroljobcostsand productionbudgets.
• Prepare andsubmit accurateandtimelymonthlycost,income, andcashflow projections.
• Execute and approvesubcontractorrequisitions and vendorinvoices.
• Coordinate,priceand assistProjectManagerin settlementofchangeordersandclaims.
• Respond to issues quickly;proactivein problemsolving;handlesmultiple tasks.
• Manage time andorganizes officeandfilingsystem efficiently; organizes andmaintains accurate projectcorrespondencefiles.
• Maintainsubcontractorinsurance certificatecompliance.
• Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent technical training and related experience.
• 2-3 years of similar construction engineering experience in Heavy Industrial projects.

Skills and Abilities:

• Advanced knowledge of construction engineering technology, codes, standards, etc., plus an in-depth understanding of the interdependence and relationship between other functional units required.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, plus demonstrated ability to manage a team of varied disciplines.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred but not required.
