Job summary

Granite Construction, via its Intermountain Slurry Seal Inc. subsidiary, seeks a Project Engineer to provide technical engineering support and ensure construction work complies with engineering standards. You will assist with job controls, interpret designs, and track costs and schedules.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 0–2 years in estimating or engineering; frequent travel to job sites; proficiency with MS Office; and strong organization and safety focus.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with job controls to ensure compliance with contract, budget, schedule, forecasting, and job costing.
  • Interpret design/drawings for craft workers installing material to ensure specs are followed.
  • Ensure all completed work complies with codes, drawings, and specifications.
  • Prepare documentation records such as status reports and punch lists for accuracy.
  • Provide technical direction on project material controls to minimize costs.
  • Develop quantity take-offs, material price lists, and labor costs for estimates.
  • Research historical data to compile reports and guidelines for future estimates.
  • Maintain working documents to support bid submission accuracy.
  • Partner with construction leaders to ensure teamwork and safety on site.

General Summary

Intermountain Slurry Seal Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Granite Construction, is seeking a Project Engineer to provide technical engineering support and ensure construction work complies with all engineering standards. The role provides technical and cost information to support compliance with contract, budget, schedule, forecasting, and job costing.

Accountabilities
  • Assist with job controls to ensure compliance with contract, budget, schedule, forecasting, and job costing
  • Interpret design/drawings for craft workers installing material to ensure specifications are followed
  • Ensure that all completed work complies with applicable codes, drawings, and specifications
  • Prepare and disseminate all required documentation records such as status reports, punch lists, material requirement calculations, etc., to supervisor to ensure accuracy
  • Provide technical support and direction regarding project material controls, including delivery dates, construction schedules, and design requirements to minimize additional costs
  • Develop job essential data including quantity take-offs, material price lists, labor costs per man-hour, and equipment data to ensure accurate estimates and bids
  • Research historical data and productivity analysis reports to compile summary reports and develop guidelines and precedence for future estimates
  • Maintain files of working documents for backup to estimating figures to support bid submission accuracy
  • Effectively partner with all construction leaders to ensure teamwork and serve as a safety leader for all field operations
Education & Work Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred; equivalent combinations of technical training, personal experience, and related experience also considered
  • 0 – 2 years construction estimating support, engineering, field support, or similar experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Proficiency with all Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings and specifications, building materials, and applicable standards for the discipline
  • Ability to perform trigonometric calculations manually or with a calculator
  • Ability to assume responsibility, interface, and communicate effectively with others
  • Highly efficient and organized

  • Comply with, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives to maintain a safe work environment
  • Adhere to Granite’s Code of Conduct at all times
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive
  • Frequent travel to and from various job sites to support operations and ensure work is within specification
Physical Demands

The job requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands to operate a computer keyboard. Occasionally reaching with hands and arms, lifting or moving up to 50 pounds. Requires close vision and ability to adjust focus. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. The work will sometimes occur around large construction equipment, requiring safety consciousness.
