Job summary

Whisper Aero is seeking a Project Engineer to coordinate cross-functional aerospace projects on site in Crossville or Nashville, TN. You will build schedules, manage risks, and drive execution with teams across engineering disciplines.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in aerospace or related fields, 3+ years in aerospace/defense, hardware development experience, and proficiency with Jira/Confluence. You’ll thrive in a fast-paced, technically challenging environment and communicate clearly

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional engineering experience in a test-related role within aerospace/defense.
  • Hands-on hardware development experience.
  • Proven track record defining, organizing, and tracking multi-system aerospace projects.
  • Experience applying agile methodologies in a hardware or hybrid hardware/software program environment.
  • Proficiency with agile project management tools such as Jira, Confluence, or equivalent for planning, tracking, and communication.

  • Build project schedules, highlight critical paths, and foresee future blockers, utilizing engineering experience and systems thinking
  • Coordinate with internal teams to clarify priorities and timelines across projects
  • Lead standups for testing teams
  • Build out requirements, milestones, and risk management strategies
  • Inform project decisions balancing technical performance, risk, and schedule
  • Interact with leadership to communicate status, priorities, issues, and resource needs
  • Use agile management tools to plan sprints, track progress, and maintain documentation across teams

About the Role

Whisper Aero is seeking a Project Engineer who will work with cross-functional engineering teams within Whisper to coordinate timing and execution of projects onsite in Crossville or Nashville, Tennessee. In this role, you will develop and refine schedules using engineering judgment and facilitate communication. The successful candidate will have a strong background in executing multi-system aerospace projects and thrive in a fast-paced, technically challenging environment. They will communicate clearly with stakeholders, including engineers and leadership.

What You’ll Do

Required Qualifications
  • US Citizenship status is required, as this position may access export-controlled data
  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional engineering experience in a test-related role within the aerospace or defense industry
  • Hands-on background with hardware development
  • Proven track record defining, organizing, and tracking multi-system aerospace projects
  • Systems-level thinking across aerospace technical disciplines
  • Experience applying agile methodologies in a hardware or hybrid hardware/software program environment
  • Ability to work with diverse technical teams
  • Proficiency with agile project management tools such as Jira, Confluence, or equivalent for planning, tracking, and communication
  • Excellent communication, writing, organizational, and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to work on tasks outside your primary job functions
  • Familiarity with AI tools (not just ChatGPT, Claude, or an AI notetaker)
Bonus Qualifications
  • Background in R&D environments developing new aerospace technologies
  • Background in aircraft design and testing
  • Working knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements related to aircraft, engines, electric machines, and electronics
  • Experience with aircraft engines or electric drivetrains
  • Experience with modern requirements management software
