Job description

PTI Tech is a leader in advanced engineered materials, delivering high‑precision components to demanding industries including defense, aerospace, medical, and industrial. To support continued growth and operational excellence, we are hiring a Project Engineer II who will play a critical leadership role.

The Project Engineer II leads new product development from concept through production handoff, independently managing technical projects across PTI’s injection molding, CNC, and sintering operations. This role partners with design, tooling, manufacturing, and quality teams to deliver products that meet performance, cost, schedule, and production‑readiness goals.

Using sound technical judgment, disciplined execution, and strong cross‑functional collaboration, the Project Engineer II drives reliable, manufacturable solutions. The role also supports manufacturing through root cause analysis, automation integration, and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen operational performance.

Competencies – What This Person Must Be

  • Technical Expertise: Technically proficient in molding, MIM, CNC machining, and related manufacturing processes.
  • Organization & Project Management: Organized and self‑directed, with strong project management capabilities.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Collaborative and effective in cross‑functional and vendor‑facing environments.
  • Analytical Problem Solving: Analytical and process‑oriented, applying structured methods to solve problems.
  • Customer & Quality Focus: Customer‑ and quality‑focused, ensuring deliverables meet expectations.
  • Adaptability: Adaptable, able to shift between NPD and production support as required. Technically proficient in molding, MIM, and CNC machining.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned NPD projects independently from concept through validation and production launch.
  • Define and maintain project timelines, budgets, and risk assessments.
  • Lead design and tooling reviews, focusing on manufacturability and production readiness.
  • Lead or coordinate injection molding tooling design and supplier communication, ensuring manufacturability, cost efficiency, and part quality.
  • Design and manage CNC fixtures, secondary operation tooling, and sintering setters to ensure dimensional repeatability and efficiency.
  • Conduct and document debind and sintering studies to optimize performance, yield, and tolerance control.
  • Define and verify technical requirements for outsourced operations (coatings, heat treat, machining) and validate vendor compliance.
  • Collaborate with automation and vision system providers, supporting setup, system verification, and adjustments during project release.
  • Plan, execute, and document validation activities (IQ, OQ, PQ, FAI) in accordance with customer and QMS standards.
  • Lead injection molding, sampling, validation builds, and capability studies.
  • Provide support to the manufacturing team in resolving recurring or systemic production issues, or when NPD workload allows.
  • Mentor Project Engineer I team members and share technical best practices.
  • Participate in continuous improvement, lesson‑learned documentation, and workflow optimization.

Key Metrics & KPI’s

  • 90% or greater of projects delivered on schedule and within budget.
  • 95% or greater first‑pass success for IQ/OQ/PQ and FAI validations.
  • 98% or greater accuracy in project and validation documentation.
  • Two percent or less corrective actions or rework post‑launch.
  • 95% or greater functional uptime for automation systems during project release.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Plastics, or related Engineering field.
  • 3–5 years of relevant engineering experience (product or manufacturing).
  • Knowledge of injection molding, CNC machining, tooling, and validation processes.
  • Familiarity with robotics, automation, or machine vision integration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with APQP, Stage-Gate, or equivalent project management processes.
  • Hands‑on involvement with automation or vision cell installations.
  • Working knowledge of SPC, PFMEA, DOE.
  • ERP or PLM system experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Work in both office and production environments.
  • Lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Visual focus for design and inspection activities.
