Job summary
S&C Electric Company in Chicago is seeking a Project Engineer to contribute to the design and execution of electrical power infrastructure projects. You will perform calculations, drafts, field surveys, and coordinate with contractors to deliver safe, reliable grid solutions.
The role requires a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, experience with AutoCAD/MicroStation, and knowledge of industrial power distribution, protective systems, and codes.
Qualifications
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Familiar with industrial power distribution, protection, UPS, switchgear, life safety, PLCs, building automation.
- Experience with commissioning, startup, troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of IEEE, NFPA, OSHA, UL, IBC, Chicago Electrical Code, NEMA.
Responsibilities
- Prepare calculations for electrical systems and power infrastructure.
- Perform field surveys to validate layouts and as-builts.
- Create drawings and engineering/construction documents (2D/3D CAD).
- Prepare electrical system drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Assist with design, troubleshooting and coordination with contractors.
- Attend meetings and ensure timely delivery and compliance.

- 7:00 am – 3:30 pm (Mon-Fri) - Onsite
At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $96,514 - $127,886.88. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&C’s annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria.
- Prepare calculations associated with building electrical systems and power infrastructure, low voltage controls, lighting, life safety.
- Perform field survey work necessary to validate layouts/plans prior to, during, and after construction.
- Perform field survey work necessary to accurately transcribe existing building plans into CAD based drawings.
- Prepare drawings and engineering/construction documents.
- Prepare electrical system drawings, single lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical physicals (arrangement, assembly, detail, fabrication), specifications, functional descriptions, sequence of operations.
- Prepare cost estimates, schedules, specifications, review/comment/approve drawings and submittals, installation supervision.
- Assist fellow team members within the Facilities department with design, troubleshooting, and electrical expertise.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance
- Attend in-person or virtual meetings as requested or required
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with others
- Drive a car or other vehicle
- Understand and comply with all applicable Company policies and rules
- Coordinate work of contractors
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or similar
- Expertise/familiarity with industrial power distribution and protection, UPS systems, switchgear, emergency generators, life safety, PLCs, building automation, ladder logic, motor controls, low voltage systems including fire signaling, access control, surveillance, and utility infrastructure systems.
- Familiarity and experience with commissioning above systems, startup, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of IEEE, NFPA, OSHA, UL, IBC, Chicago Electric Code, NEMA, and electrical industry codes and standards.
- Ability to create project budgets/estimates.
- Experience with construction management, electrical construction standards and practices, and coordination of trades.
- Drafting experience with AUTOCAD and MicroStation.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to prioritize work and stay organized to meet project schedules and internal customer requests
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to review, interpret and effectively comment on drawings as required to accurately communicate desired construction to contractors.
- P.E. license or FE
- Process system and/or material handling experience
- Experience with audit compliance
- Experience with preventative maintenance
- Experience with project management
- Experience with Building Automation Systems
- Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematic drawings
