Job summary

CannonDesign is seeking a lead electrical engineer to join our multi-disciplinary team. You will design building electrical systems for new construction and renovations in education, healthcare, and commercial settings, and provide technical leadership to a team of designers and engineers.

Preferred candidates have at least 10 years of related experience, a current PE license in the United States, and LEED accreditation is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of related experience required.
  • Current PE license in the United States required.
  • LEED accreditation preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical engineering principles.
  • Ability to perform QA/QC and act as an independent reviewer.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong client and design team interface skills.
  • Experience with engineering design software (Revit, AGI32, Visual, SKM Power Tools).

  • Perform electrical systems design for building projects, developing design goals and systems.
  • Provide technical leadership to designers and engineering team.

  • May serve as project manager or engineering lead and lead meetings.
  • Ensure project engineering responsibilities align with budgets and schedules.
  • Design lighting, power distribution, signaling, communications, and telecom systems per codes.
  • Prepare construction documents and guide junior staff.
  • Participate in QA/QC and conduct site visits and construction administration.

This role is remote within the U.S., with a preference for candidates located in or near: Arlington, VA; Baltimore, MD; Boston, MA; Buffalo, NY; Chicago, IL; Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; Los Angeles, CA; San Diego, CA; St. Louis, MO; or Pittsburgh, PA.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You will be a member of our multi‑disciplinary team and will perform as a high‑level specialist in a lead role for the electrical engineering team. Projects may include new construction and renovation in educational, healthcare, sports, corporate commercial, and science and technology settings.

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Perform electrical engineering systems design for building construction, initiating project designs and helping to develop design goals and systems.
  • Oversee, guide, mentor and provide technical leadership to designers and engineering team.
  • Participate or lead project teamwork planning sessions.
  • May serve as project manager or project engineering leader and lead engineering meetings.
  • Assume project engineering responsibilities and adhere to financial and work goals.
  • Design lighting, power distribution, signaling, communications and/or telecommunication systems for healthcare, education/higher education and commercial clients per applicable codes.
  • Prepare construction documents including drawings and specifications, guide less experienced team members in execution of drawings, and specify electrical equipment.
  • Serve in QA/QC process and as an independent reviewer.
  • Complete quality control checks of engineering documents.
  • Work with the Project Manager to establish and maintain realistic work and labor plans and deliverable schedules that contribute to the project's bottom line financial success and satisfy the project's contractual obligations.
  • Participate or lead value engineering sessions with Architectural/Engineering team.
  • Interface effectively with clients and members of the design team.
  • Recommend improvements with reference standards and processes to improve quality, coordination, and streamline production efforts.
  • Review and markup shop drawings and submittals. Respond to RFIs and review of change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
  • Responsible for projects' construction administration, conduct job site visits to verify existing conditions, observe construction progress, attend and participate in construction meetings, and perform physical walk‑throughs of site.
  • Apply knowledge of electrical and building codes in building systems design.
  • May perform other related tasks as needed.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The salary range for this position is $127,155.00 to $158,970.00. Employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and will receive a full benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage, flexible spending account options, voluntary insurance plans, paid time off, flex‑time schedules, remote work options, a 401(k) plan, and employee perk programs.
