Job summary

McClelland Consulting Engineers (MCE), an ESP Company, seeks a Project Designer to support transportation and stormwater infrastructure projects in the Little Rock/Benton area. You will assist in planning, design, and delivery of roadway improvements, sidewalks, trails, and drainage systems, under guidance from senior engineers.

You will prepare drawings, exhibits, and PS&E packages, using ORD, MicroStation, and AutoCAD Civil 3D, while coordinating with project teams and clients.

Qualifications

  • Experience or willingness to learn OpenRoads Designer (ORD), MicroStation, GeoPak, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and related design software.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Synchro, SIDRA, and RODEL software is advantageous.
  • Ability to prepare engineering drawings, models, and technical calculations with strong attention to detail.
  • Understanding of transportation and stormwater design principles and construction practices.
  • Knowledge of applicable engineering standards, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Candidates must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company driving (MVR) policy.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning, design, and production of transportation, roadway, multi-use trail, and stormwater drainage projects.
  • Prepare engineering drawings, exhibits, models, and project deliverables under the direction of Project Engineers and Project Managers.
  • Develop plans, specifications, estimates (PS&E), construction details, quantity calculations, and supporting project documentation.
  • Assist with roadway and highway design, including horizontal and vertical geometry, drainage systems, culverts, retaining walls, and stormwater management facilities.
  • Utilize CADD and design software to prepare plan sheets, profiles, cross-sections, modeling, and construction details.
  • Coordinate with engineers, surveyors, geotechnical consultants, and other project team members to support project development.
  • Assist with data collection, field investigations, site visits, and construction observations as required.
  • Prepare technical calculations, drainage analyses, cost estimates, exhibits, and reports.
  • Support project teams in meeting schedules, quality standards, and client requirements.
  • Maintain project files and documentation in accordance with company procedures and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, design standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with project team members and supervisors regarding project status, schedules, and technical issues.

Summary

Located in the Benton/Little Rock area, this position will support the planning, design, and delivery of transportation and stormwater infrastructure projects, including roadway improvements, sidewalks, trails, and stormwater drainage systems. Preferred
  • Associate's degree, technical degree, or bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Drafting, or a related field.
  • EIT certification.
  • 2+ years of experience in transportation, roadway, drainage, or site infrastructure design.
Travel
  • Most travel is limited to day trips to visit project sites, collect field information, attend meetings, or support project activities. Overnight travel is generally not required.
