Job summary

ABB is seeking an engineer to create and modify standard designs of equipment and installations. You will produce drawings and calculations per contract specifications, participate in design reviews, and support design verifications. Onsite work model and collaboration with manufacturing ensure designs are ready for production.

The role requires CAD experience (AutoCAD; CREO preferred), ability to read schematics, and familiarity with ERP/MES systems. U.S. work authorization is required.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree with 2+ years manufacturing experience or HS diploma with 4+ years experience.
  • AutoCAD is a must.
  • 3D CAD modeling experience (CREO or similar) preferred.
  • Able to read and interpret schematics and technical specs.
  • Proficiency with MS Office; ERP/MES; SAP desired.
  • ISO9001 QMS experience desired; Six Sigma knowledge desired.
  • Candidates must have US work authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Create and modify standard designs of equipment, systems or installations per contract specs.
  • Prepare drawings and calculations; participate in design reviews and verifications.
  • Ensure BOM meets contractual obligations and project gross margin requirements.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing and testing to ensure design is manufactured/staged and updated as-built.
  • Contribute to development of new processes and tools for reusing technical solutions.

This position reports to: Engineering Manager I

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to create and modify standard designs of equipment, systems, or installations, including standard specifications for manufacturing, fabrication, or construction. Each day you will design engineering solutions, including drawings and calculations according to contract specifications, and contribute to design reviews, design verification, and modification of designs as necessary.

The work model for the role is: Onsite

  • Contributing to the preparation of specific aspects of design assignments to meet contractual obligations, adhering to relevant standards, safety, cybersecurity, and quality requirements.
  • Ensuring that Bill of Materials for the project meets contractual obligations and project gross margin requirements by avoiding generation of Project Left‑Over Material.
  • Coordinating with manufacturing and testing functions to ensure the designs are appropriately manufactured or staged and tested, updating the engineering deliverables as built.
  • Using standard processes and tools and assisting in developing new processes and tools for the reuse of technical solutions.

Qualifications for the role
  • Associate degree and 2 years of experience (manufacturing preferred) OR High School Diploma/GED and 4 years of experience.
  • AutoCAD experience is a must have.
  • AutoCAD experience required and 3D CAD modeling experience in CREO or a similar platform preferred.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with ability to analyze and resolve problems; demonstrated ability to read and interpret schematics and technical specifications; experience working with processes typically utilized to produce products used within the electrical industry.
  • Proficient with MS Office, ERP systems, MES programs, and capacity planning tools; experience with SAP (desired).
  • Experience working in an ISO9001 QMS compliant environment (desired); Six Sigma knowledge (desired).
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that permits them to work for ABB in the US.
