Job summary

Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer II requires PE licensure in Nebraska or ability to obtain within 90 days.
  • Engineer track requires FE exam within one year of employment.

Job Description

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is seeking a Project Delivery Engineer to join us in our mission to provide the best possible transportation system for the movement of people and goods!

The District Project Delivery Engineer aids in the delivery of state and federal aid funded construction projects. The position assists in balancing project and program deliverability, scope, cost, and schedules. This position is part of a 5-member team of technical project delivery managers with expertise in project design, environmental requirements, scheduling construction, and funding. This team works with all representatives assigned to assist with project delivery. This position coordinates between Central Complex and District staff.

Pay rate range for this position is $41.913 per hour to $61.784 per hour. The pay rate is commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints, if approved.

If unable to fill at the Professional Engineer II level, will consider applicants at the Professional Engineer I level. Pay range for this classification is $36.443 - $53.722 per hour. The pay rate is commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints, if approved.

If unable to fill at the Professional Engineer I level, will consider applicants at the Engineer level. Pay rate for this classification is $31.968 per hour.

Job Duties
  • Technical District Coordination - Communication and coordination with District resources to provide critical information for initiating, planning, designing, and coordinating activities for construction project development; coordination requires scheduling and management of items, such as existing asset condition, slope verification, culvert, guardrail, curb and flume assessment, driveway, and intersection locations, mailbox turnouts, erosion and/or maintenance issues, constructability, phasing/detours, winter work opportunities, letting optimization, utilities, environmental commitment compliance and coordinating survey needs.
  • Technical Project Management - Continuous coordination and communication with Technical Project Managers to efficiently deliver construction projects and programs, manage risk and changes in scope, cost, and schedule to improve schedule reliability.
  • Public Engagement - Along with NDOT's Communications division, participates in the planning and execution of meaningful public engagement to support project delivery and construction.
  • Construction Risk Assessment & Mitigation - Identify and mitigate constructability risks that may affect NDOT's program and project delivery, overruns, and change orders.
  • Quality Assurance - Perform quality assurance through plan review to improve constructability and simplify contractor bidding.
  • Document Approval - Review and recommend approval of Planning and Scoping documents and facilitate development of local agreements.
  • NEPA Assumption - Support via project and program risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Management/Oversight - Supervise any or all the following functions in the District: Engineers, District Environmental Coordinator(s) and Project Final Reviewer(s); assist in management of construction personnel during District winter operations;
  • Miscellaneous - Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer II: Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and one year of experience performing professional level engineering assignments. Must possess a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license at the time of application and be licensed by the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects at time of employment or be able to obtain such license within 90 days of employment.
  • Professional Engineer I: Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline. Must possess a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license at the time of application and be licensed by the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects at the time of employment or be able to obtain such license within 90 days of employment.
  • Engineer: Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline. Must pass the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) within one year of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer licensure or demonstrated progress toward licensure (i.e., verification of passing the PE exam).
  • Two or more years of engineering experience in heavy highway/bridge construction, roadway design, bridge design, and/or materials engineering.
  • Practical construction inspection and management experience in heavy highway/bridge construction and working knowledge of and/or experience
