Job summary

Geosyntec Consultants, Inc. in Johnson City, TN is seeking an experienced Project Dams - Geotechnical Engineer to lead and contribute to challenging dam and levee projects, geotechnical analyses, and asset protection.

You will mentor staff, manage projects, and collaborate with clients, while advancing geotechnical design, instrumentation, and construction support in a fast-paced consulting environment. Travel and fieldwork are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering is required.
  • Advanced degree is a plus.
  • Professional licensure (PE/PG) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on design and construction of dam and levee projects.
  • Perform geotechnical analyses (slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, seismic, seepage).
  • Develop instrumentation monitoring systems and manage fieldwork.
  • Provide project/task management, client management, and staff mentoring.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec’s culture. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you’d work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. You may also be asked to take on project management responsibilities, along with staff management and development, and mentoring tasks.

Some of the key responsibilities may include:

  • Civil design and site layout;
  • Monitoring heavy civil construction projects;
  • Geotechnical engineering analyses such as slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, seismic, and seepage;
  • Dam and levee evaluations;
  • Geotechnical and site characterization;
  • Development and management of instrumentation monitoring systems;
  • Project/task management and proposal preparation support;
  • Developing construction documents;
  • Preparation of engineering reports, design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, and permit applications; and
  • Fieldwork associated with design and construction services.
  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering or a related field. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.E. P.G.) (required)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • At least 7 years directly relevant experience in a consulting environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Knowledge of relevant geotechnical engineering software (e.g., slope stability). (required)
  • Knowledge of numerical modeling tools. (preferred)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
  • Field work and overnight travel may be required.
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
