Job summary

Ragle Incorporated seeks a Project Cost Accountant to manage financial aspects of construction projects, ensuring accurate cost tracking, budgeting, and reporting to drive profitability. You will collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field teams while supporting audits and compliance in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires a detail-oriented professional with 3+ years in construction accounting, strong knowledge of cost principles, and proficiency with Sage/Viewpoint and Excel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in construction or heavy civil projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction cost principles, job costing, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Sage, Viewpoint) and advanced Excel for data analysis.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate with project managers and field teams while managing multiple projects under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyze project costs (labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors) to align with budgets/forecasts.
  • Prepare detailed cost reports, variance analyses, and financial projections for ongoing projects.
  • Assist in developing budgets, change orders, and contract negotiations with accurate financial data.
  • Track job progress through cost coding, invoicing, and reconciliation of accounts payable/receivable related to projects.
  • Collaborate with project managers and superintendents to review cost performance, resolve discrepancies, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies, including audit documentation.
  • Utilize ERP software to maintain real-time financial data and generate insightful reports for management.
  • Support month-end/year-end closings, including accruals and allocations for assigned projects.
  • Contribute to process improvements in cost accounting procedures to improve efficiency.

About the Role

The Project Cost Accountant will play a critical role in managing financial aspects of construction projects, ensuring accurate cost tracking, budgeting, and reporting to support project success and profitability.
