Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Project Controls Professional based in the Western U.S. The role involves maintaining project ledgers, budgets, expenditures, forecasts, and supporting project execution from setup through cost, schedule, and procedures.

You’ll prepare financial setup documents, provide weekly updates, participate in monthly reviews, establish WBS, monitor budgets vs. actuals, and handle subcontract procurement and change logs; hybrid work model offered.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience in the engineering consulting industry as a project controls professional setting up projects, managing budgets and schedules, and monitoring subcontracts.
  • Experience with earned-value progress and all phases of home-office engineering.
  • Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals and practices.
  • Proficient computer skills including Intermediate to Advanced Excel; Word, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint.
  • Aptitude to learn and solve a range of basic problems; capable of performing straightforward assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain project ledgers showing budget line items, commitments, expenditures, and forecasts.
  • Provide weekly financial updates and participate in monthly project reviews.
  • Establish and maintain a project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
  • Monitor budgets against actual costs and forecasts; ensure accurate cost tracking.
  • Prepare procurement forms for subcontracts and review subcontractor invoices.
  • Track budget, expenditures, and contract terms for subcontracts; manage change logs.

Jacobs is looking for an organized and driven Project Controls Professional based in the Western U.S. In this role, you'll maintain project ledgers showing budget line items, commitments, expenditures, and forecasts. You’ll also perform project control tasks to assist the operations team with the success of the project from new project set‑up through monitoring of cost, schedule, budget, and procedures.

As a Project Controls professional, you’ll prepare project financial set‑up documents. Project Managers will rely on you for project execution support, as you provide them with weekly financial updates and prepare for and participate in monthly project reviews. You’ll also work with them and the operations team to establish and maintain a project work breakdown structure (WBS). As you perform weekly financial reviews, you’ll identify and make any necessary corrections. You’ll monitor budgets against actual costs and forecasts, ensuring accurate cost tracking.

Subcontract‑related responsibilities include preparing procurement forms for subcontract initiation, assisting with the subcontractor invoice review process, and tracking budget, expenditures and contract term for all subcontracts (and initiating term extensions and closures when needed). You’ll provide change‑management support, including maintenance of project change logs.

Here’s what you’ll need
  • 5+ years professional experience in the engineering consulting industry as a project controls professional setting up projects, managing budgets and schedules, and monitoring subcontracts.
  • Experience in using and understanding earned‑value progress and experience in all phases of home‑office engineering.
  • An understanding of accounting fundamentals and practices.
  • Computer skills (Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills, working knowledge within Word, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint).
  • An aptitude to learn.
  • Ability to solve a range of basic problems and analyze possible solutions.
  • Perform a range of straight‑forward assignments.
Ideally, You’ll Also Have
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Cost Management, Engineering, Project Management, Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience in lieu of education.
  • Experience working in EcoSys (IPCS), and reporting.
  • Experience with a variety of contract mechanisms (Time & Materials [T&M], Lump Sum, Cost Plus Fee, Unit Price/T&M).
  • Previous experience and understanding of client contracts, bid and proposal documents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

The base salary range for this position is $69,500.00 to $95,500.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
