Job summary

Stantec is seeking an On Call Project Biologist to support its Environmental Services Practice. You will conduct field surveys and monitoring for a large utility client and other projects across California, with opportunities for professional development in a growing firm.

The role emphasizes fieldwork, reporting, regulatory awareness, and collaboration with team leads, managers, and clients, with travel within Southern California and potential remote/work-from-home options.

Qualifications

• 1 year of biological monitoring, surveying, reporting, or natural resource permitting experience in Southern California.
• Ability to travel in support of field surveys and/or biological monitoring.
• Knowledge of field implementation, data gathering, and collection using GPS and GIS tools.
• Familiarity with flora and fauna of Southern California.
• Strong communication with clients, engineers, scientists, regulators, and academia.

Responsibilities

• Independently conduct field work such as breeding bird surveys, vegetation assessments, wetland delineation and classification, and monitoring; prepare reporting.
• Assist with the preparation of technical reports (biological resources, jurisdictional delineation, monitoring, etc.).

Your Opportunity

Stantec is hiring an On Call Project Biologist to support our Environmental Services Practice. You will primarily support a high-volume environmental services program for a large utility client, with potential to support additional clients based on need/availability. The successful candidate will support field surveys, compliance monitoring, and technical support services in relation to biological/wetland resources. You will also coordinate with the team, task leads, program managers, and clients to support multiple tasks and subprograms. While the primary focus will be on biological/wetland resources, this position offers the selected individual the ability to apply their technical experience to a diverse range of projects and clients across California, as well as professional development opportunities within an established and rapidly growing consulting organization.

Location: This role is based out of our Southern California Stantecoffices, including [San Bernardino, CA; Los Angeles, CA; Pasadena CA; Santa Barbara, CA; Ventura, CA; Monrovia, CA.]however,geographic alignment with other Stantec offices can be considered based on experience. Your Key Responsibilities

• Independently conduct field work such as breeding bird surveys, vegetation community assessments, wetland delineation and classification, special-status species surveys, and construction monitoring, including the preparation of parts of or all associated reporting.
• Assist with the preparation of technical reports (e.g., biological resources, technical reports, jurisdictional delineation reports, monitoring reports, etc.).
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of existing and emerging regulatory requirements, wildlife and vegetation assessment methodologies, and best practices.
• Travel is required within southern California.
• Develop a working understanding of Stantec’s other consulting practice areas and actively support cross-selling other services to existing clients.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• 1 year of biologicalmonitoring, surveying, reporting, or natural resource permitting experience in Southern California.
• Ability to travel in support of field surveys and/or biological monitoring.
• Knowledge and familiarity with field implementation, data gathering, and collection using GPS and GIS tools.
• Familiarity with flora and fauna of Southern California
• Possess skills in communications and technical information exchange with clients, engineers and scientists, government regulators and agencies, and academia.
• Strong attention to detail, and excellent coordination and communication skills.
• This role requires effective in person, tele/video conference, and written communication with team members.
• Adept at handling complex and challenging interactions.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and team-oriented setting.
• Demonstrate good judgement as to when to elevate potential issues to team leads/managers.
• Proficient in computer software including Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.), and Google Earth.
• Ability to learn new software systems (training will be provided).
• Willingness to workoutside of typicalbusinesshourswhen needed.
• Candidates must pass client backgroundchecksto access online systems (upon employment).
• Comply withall Stantec and client policies including those related to safety, anti-harassment, and drug use.
• Must havea good drivingrecord andvalidDriver's License.
• A medical physical and/or drug and alcohol screening may be required for some project assignments.
• Knowledge of or experience working with a diverse set of project types including energy, transportation, environmental infrastructure, oil and gas, and water is an asset.

Education and Experience

• A bachelor’s degree in biology, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. Minimum 1 year of related experience in Southern California, or an equivalent combination of education (e.g., advanced degree) and experience.

Typical office environment working with computers andremainingsedentary forlong periodsof time. Field work may include exposure toelementsincluding inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs. Pay Range

• Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ, VA Areas-$54,000.00 - $75,600.00 Annually
• Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA, VA Areas-$57,900.00 - $81,100.00 Annually

Pay Transparency:

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
