Job summary

Grimshaw, a global architecture and design studio, is seeking a Project BIM Manager for the Los Angeles studio. The role focuses on project delivery, BIM governance, and collaboration with North America BIM leads. It is a hybrid role with in-studio Mondays-Thursday and optional WFH on Fridays.

You will lead BIM processes, set up federated models, coordinate with BIM specialists, and help raise software literacy across the design teams. Minimum 5 years BIM leadership is required.

Qualifications

  • Degree in architecture or related field.
  • 5+ years applying BIM management on mid- to large-scale projects.
  • Experience leading BIM coordination with consultants.

Responsibilities

  • Lead BIM processes, workflows and coordination on projects.
  • Set up Revit models and BEP; ensure model health and standards.
  • Lead BIM coordination meetings and advise on implementation strategy.

Education

Bachelor's degree in architecture / architectural technology / engineering
5+ years BIM management experience

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Project BIM Manager to join our Los Angeles studio, located in the Arts District. In this role, you will be expected to have a primarily project-focused view, supporting the project design teams as the designated subject matter expert and ensuring quality digital delivery. In addition, as part of the North America BIM team, you will support the regional BIM Lead and collaborate with BIM specialists in our New York studio on initiatives, R&D efforts and external engagement. This is a hybrid-work role: Mondays through Thursdays in-studio, Fridays optional work-from-home.

Role Responsibilities
Project

The Project BIM Manager will be responsible for leading all BIM processes, workflows and coordination on assigned projects. These responsibilities can include:

  • Authoring, maintaining and enforcing the BIM Execution Plan (BEP)
  • Setting up new Revit project models to support a larger federation strategy (linked model hierarchies, survey files, shared coordinates, workset management, etc.)
  • Ensure that all Revit models comply with Grimshaw and/or client BIM standards
  • Manage relevant modules on Forma (formerly ACC)
  • Lead internal and external BIM coordination meetings
  • Advise on BIM implementation strategy
  • Create project-specific and company-wide BIM content
  • Provide at-desk support to the design teams
Studio/Region
  • Report directly to the LA Managing Partner and North America BIM Lead
  • Regularly meet with the North America BIM team
  • Contribute to, and in some cases lead, BIM team initiatives
  • Train design staff as needed to raise software literacy
  • Document exemplar work for future use and new business development
  • Develop and maintain the reputation of Grimshaw BIM in the local community
Role Requirements
Skills and Knowledge
  • Advanced knowledge of Autodesk Revit, Forma (formerly ACC), Ideate tools (primarily BIMLink, Explorer and Automation) and pyRevit.
  • Knowledge of interoperability workflows between Revit, AutoCAD and Rhino.
  • Knowledge of Revit model health check and resolution processes, model federation and coordination, clash detection, and cloud collaboration.
  • Knowledge in the following is beneficial but not required: Dynamo, Guardian, Python, PowerBI, Power Query, Twinmotion, Avail, Enscape
Competencies
  • Must be able to clearly articulate advanced concepts in a manner that team members of any skill level can understand.
  • Must be comfortable training teams in relevant workflows and software.
  • Must have the ability to work in a highly organized and methodical manner.
  • Must have a proactive attitude and be adept at problem-solving.
  • Must have the ability to rapidly pick up new software skills when required.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
Experience
  • Degree in architecture, architectural technology, engineering or other relevant subject.
  • At least 5 years of experience applying BIM management practices on mid- to large-scale projects.
  • Experience working collaboratively within a team of BIM specialists.
  • Experience leading consultants in external disciplines in following defined BIM workflows.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, ranging from $110,000 to $125,000 excluding annual profit share and other benefits. This is a good faith estimate based on the expectations as laid out in the job description. Grimshaw provides a comprehensive benefits package, including fully employer-paid medical, dental, and vision for individual coverage, with dependent coverage available at competitive group rates.
