Job summary

Stantec in Washington, DC is seeking a Project Architect/Designer to lead complex civic, transit, and federal projects. You will guide design, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and act as a primary client contact from concept through construction.

This senior role requires a professional architecture degree, 5+ years of experience, and familiarity with LEED and building codes. Strong BIM, detailing, and coordination skills are essential; relocation or travel may be involved.

Qualifications

  • Professionally accredited degree in Architecture or equivalent in support of architectural license required. Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project design and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
  • Serve as primary interface with clients and subconsultants.
  • Develop design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, massing studies, and other visual formats.
  • Utilize BIM technologies in development of three‑dimensional models of buildings and their components.
  • Participate in design critiques and pin‑ups.
  • Develop and oversee construction documentation, specifications, and technical coordination.
  • Assist in preparation of project budget, schedule, and overall work planning.
  • Apply knowledge of building codes, cost considerations, and constructability to support successful delivery.
  • Participate in bidding and negotiation phase and prepare addenda.
  • Review shop drawings and submittals, respond to RFIs, prepare site observation reports, and other contract administration tasks.
  • Participate in client project requirement meetings and value analysis and basic cost estimating.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to studio growth and culture.

With a long-standing commitment to the civic sector, our work spans a diverse range of project types and scales. We are seeking a Project Architect / Project Designer to join our Buildings practice. As a senior member of our Architecture team, you will lead the planning and design of complex projects, working closely with clients to deliver thoughtful, high‑performing solutions. Your Key Responsibilities

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Knowledge of accessibility codes, applicable building codes, and knowledge of building construction systems, means and methods, materials, and associated standards.
  • Understanding of all phases of architectural document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of building construction systems, means and methods, materials, and associated standards.
  • The ability to conduct space planning, block planning, and adjacencies in coordination with building program.
  • Ability to develop floor plans, wall sections, and details.
  • The ability to check work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of architectural document production.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting through all phases of architectural document production.
  • Ability to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Ability to hand‑sketch and communicate concepts and ideas to others effectively.
  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building program, and other similar material.
  • Ability to communicate abstract ideas (verbal/written).
  • Strong presentation and interview skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp.
Education and Experience
  • Professionally accredited degree in Architecture or equivalent in support of architectural license required. Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • LEED Green Associate Accreditation or LEED AP preferred.
  • Experience in Civic, Transit, or Federal projects is strongly preferred.
Pay Range
  • Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA, VA Areas: $92,900.00 – $134,600.00 annually.
Benefits Summary
