Job summary

DeStigter Architecture LLC seeks a Project Architect to lead design from concept through construction docs, coordinating all project phases with a focus on multi-family, mixed-use, and historic preservation projects near Grand Rapids. The role emphasizes collaboration, mentorship, and delivering well-crafted architecture that serves communities.

The ideal candidate has 5–7 years' experience, a NAAB-accredited architecture degree, and proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD Architecture, Microsoft Office,

Qualifications

  • Professional degree in architecture (NAAB-accredited).
  • 5–7 years of architectural experience required.
  • LEED accreditation preferred.
  • Experience in both commercial and residential construction.
  • Strong portfolio of design solutions and large-scale projects.
  • Knowledge of building codes and construction detailing.
  • Ability to coordinate with structural, MEP, civil, and landscape teams.
  • Proficient with Revit, AutoCAD Architecture, Office, and Adobe Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design process from concept through construction documentation.
  • Coordinate all project phases including budgeting and scheduling.
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders to gather requirements and provide updates.
  • Prepare and manage construction documents, specs, and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with codes, safety regs, and quality standards.
  • Provide mentorship to junior staff.
  • Review RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings.
  • Manage communications with clients and contractors.

Job description

Core office hours are 8am to 5pm M-F. We offer a hybrid work environment with the ability to work remotely as appropriate with your experience. Tools are provided for remote work.

Role Requirements
Under the guidance of the firm’s senior team members, the Project Architect’s primary day-to-day responsibilities will be as follows:
  • Design Oversight: Lead the design process, ensuring that architectural plans meet client specifications and regulatory requirements, from conceptual phase through construction documentation.
  • Project Management: Coordinate all phases of the project, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Client Interaction: Engage with clients and stakeholders to gather requirements, present designs, and provide updates throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Documentation: Prepare and manage construction documents, including drawings, specifications and reports.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that the project adheres to building codes, safety regulations, and quality standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior architectural staff.
  • Ensure project documentation is accurate and up to date.
  • Review contractor RFI’s, submittals, and shop drawings.
  • Handle project-related communication and negotiations with clients and contractors.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Education and Qualifications
  • Professional degree in architecture field required, from an NAAB accredited program.
  • 5-7 years of experience in architectural field.
  • LEED Accreditation is preferred.
  • Experience in both Commercial and Residential construction.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating innovative and functional design solutions.
  • Proven track record of managing large-scale architectural projects.
  • Strong understanding of building codes, building systems, construction techniques, and architectural detailing.
  • Ability to coordinate with structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil, and landscape consultants.
  • Excellent written, verbal and visual communication skills.
  • Proficient with Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD Architecture, Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
