HDR is currently seeking a Project Architect for our studio located in downtown Chicago, IL. Our team is an integrated facility and infrastructure design team consisting of core services of Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Structural and Site Civil Engineering. In addition to our team of experienced Mission Critical Architects and Engineers, the studio also focuses on healthcare, educational, civic, science and research facilities.

To help support our rapidly growing Data Center projects, HDR is seeking a talented Architect who has experience working hard to meet aggressive deadlines. This position offers immensely valuable experience, working on cutting‑edge technologies with a variety of exposure to different trades, systems, and stakeholders. This candidate will also help develop our architectural bench alongside staff that are in the early part of their career by receiving regular coaching and mentoring to grow their design capabilities and expertise.

In the role of Project Architect, we’ll count on you to:

  • Evaluate, select and apply standard architectural techniques, procedures and criteria using judgment for minor adaptations and modifications
  • Perform assignments with specific objectives, requiring investigation of a limited set of variables
  • Follow instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features and possible solutions
  • Perform architectural assignments with direction, but without immediate supervision and with limited design responsibility
  • Recommend and select procedures
  • Write reports and specification covering architectural matters
  • Take responsibility for phases of individual revenue‑producing projects as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Architecture
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or architectural consulting firm
  • Experience in the areas of healthcare, educational, civic, science and research facilities
  • Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchUp and 3‑D Studio Max
  • Rhino and Grasshopper experience
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or closely related field
  • A minimum of 3 years experience
  • Registered Architect
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project)
  • Strong leadership, communication and relationship management skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Proficient in use of Autodesk Revit and familiarity with related tools and process
  • Demonstrated graphic presentation skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture is a must
