Job summary

HBC Engineering Company in Florida is seeking a full-time Accountant to support financial operations across project billing, A/P, A/R, payroll coordination, and reporting. This role suits detail-oriented professionals with experience in project-based billing, government contracting, or professional services.

You will work with project managers, leadership, and external consultants to maintain records, ensure compliance, and deliver timely financial reporting across a multi-project engineering

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or candidacy a plus.
• 2+ years of accounting experience; engineering, architecture, construction, or government contracting preferred.
• Familiarity with project-based accounting, cost accounting, and multi-phase billing.
• Knowledge of FAR overhead compliance and indirect cost rate structures is a strong plus.
• Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Deltek, or similar platforms; proficiency with Microsoft Excel required.
• Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including invoice processing, vendor payments, and client billing
• Prepare and process project invoices in coordination with project managers, ensuring accuracy against contract terms and billing schedules
• Support payroll processing and coordinate with HR on time-tracking, benefits deductions, and labor cost allocations
• Maintain general ledger entries, bank reconciliations, and month-end and year-end close processes
• Assist with the preparation of financial statements, budget reports, cash flow analyses, and management summaries
• Monitor project budgets and expenditures, flagging variances and supporting project financial reporting to leadership
• Support compliance with government contracting requirements including FAR overhead rate calculations, indirect cost tracking, and audit preparation
• Coordinate with external auditors, CPAs, and tax preparers as needed
• Maintain organized financial records and documentation in accordance with firm policies and regulatory requirements
• Identify process improvement opportunities and support the implementation of accounting best practices as the firm scales
