Job summary

Jupiter Power in Chicago, IL is seeking a Project Accountant to own project-level accounting, validate invoices, and coordinate financing packages, reporting to the VP, Accounting & Financial Reporting.

This high-visibility role requires collaboration with Finance, Development, Construction, Operations, and Procurement, with a focus on improving processes and supporting month-end closes and audits.

Qualifications

  • Degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience demonstrating an understanding of accounting practices and procedures.
  • 2-4 years of general accounting experience.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Own project-level accounting for assigned projects — reviewing and validating invoice coding and project allocation, partnering with Accounts Payable on invoice and payment support, and coordinating the project financing (draw) package as the accounting point of contact.
  • Collaborate with Accounts Payable, Finance, Development, Construction, Operations, and Procurement to ensure accurate accounting and cost allocation across a multi-entity organization.
  • Prepare and own monthly and quarterly project reconciliations, continuously improving processes, controls, and supporting documentation.
  • Help document and improve accounting processes and procedures to support a growing organization.
  • Prepare internal and external project-level reporting.
  • Support month-end close and financial audits, recommending procedural improvements to ensure accounting and reporting conform to generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Perform other ad hoc duties as requested.

Job description

Jupiter Power is an energy infrastructure company focused on the development, construction, and operation of energy storage assets in wholesale electricity markets. Formed in 2017, the company is a national leader in energy storage deployment, utilizing its proprietary dispatch optimization applications to support both merchant and contracted structures. Backed by BlackRock’s Diversified Infrastructure business, Jupiter Power has a strategic and established portfolio of 787.5/1375 of utility-scale energy storage projects operating or in construction in the U.S., with a leading pipeline of over 11,000 MW in active development.

Jupiter Power is looking to grow its accounting team with the addition of a Project Accountant. The Project Accountant will report to the VP, Accounting & Financial Reporting and be the primary liaison between Accounting and the Finance, Development, Construction, and Operations teams.

This is a high-visibility role for someone who wants to take ownership of their projects and help improve how the work gets done.

This role will be based out of our Chicago, IL office and subject to our return-to-office policy, which currently requires a minimum of three days per week in the office.

This is a highly visible role with significant cross-functional interaction and the opportunity to influence and improve business processes.
  • Prepare and own monthly and quarterly project reconciliations, continuously improving processes, controls, and supporting documentation.
  • Help document and improve accounting processes and procedures to support a growing organization.
  • Prepare internal and external project-level reporting.
  • Support month-end close and financial audits, recommending procedural improvements to ensure accounting and reporting conform to generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Perform other ad hoc duties as requested.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and Outlook. Familiarity with Ramp, Expensify, Corpay, and/or Sage Intacct or similar platforms is preferred.
  • Experience working on multiple projects/developments simultaneously.
  • Ability to adhere to monthly, quarterly, and annual department-driven deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills – able to work effectively in a team environment and attentive to timelines.

Requirements

Compensation & Benefits

$90,000 - $110,000 Annually

This pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Jupiter Power considers a number of factors when determining starting compensation such as the position requirements and the candidate’s qualifications.
