Job summary

Dekker is seeking a Project Accountant to prepare and submit monthly client billings and to communicate billing-related matters with clients. You will collaborate with Project Managers and Principals and serve as the primary contact for project accounting.

This role creates and maintains accurate project records in the accounting system, supports WIP and budgeting, codes consultant invoices, and generates monthly AR statements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 3-5 years of project accounting experience, preferably within the architecture, engineering, or construction (AEC) industry.
• Strong understanding of project-based accounting, including budgeting, revenue recognition, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and project billing.
• Exceptional attention to detail and decision-making skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across different departments and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and send draft billings to Project Managers for review and approval.

• Set up and maintain project records, budgets, billing terms, and other project-related information in the accounting system.
• Assist with coding and recording consultant invoices to projects.
• Generate and distribute monthly Accounts Receivable statements to clients.
• Identify billing issues and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• Train and support Project Managers on project financial procedures, billing processes, and financial reporting.
• Prepare and analyze month-end consultant budget reports and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reports.
• Respond to billing inquiries and work with clients and internal project teams to resolve billing discrepancies.
• Prepare ad hoc reports and complete special projects as needed
