MercyFirst in Brooklyn, NY seeks a qualified leader to oversee the Diagnostic Center’s case planning, education, and intake systems for youth and families, ensuring program alignment with state standards.

You will supervise 2 caseworkers and an education coordinator on site, coordinate with Admissions to maintain census, and partner with ACS for timely admissions and transfers. This role emphasizes trauma-informed supervision and collaboration across teams to support youth growth.

Qualifications

• Master of Social Work Degree or an equivalent degree in education, psychology, sociology, or other relevant behavioral science.
• 2 years of experience in child welfare administration, child protective services, and program management.
• Excellent Leadership, Organizational, Supervision, Communication and Analytical skills.
• Knowledge and training in working with adolescents & families; Knowledge of and commitment to child welfare best practice standards.
• Understanding and willingness to commit to the agency’s mission, core values and Sanctuary commitments.
• Valid New York State Driver’s License, satisfactory driving record and ability to travel in and around the Long Island region.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Connections

Responsibilities

MercyFirst is a not-for-profit human and social service agency that has been serving children and families in need since we were founded by the Sisters of Mercy/Hermanas de las Misericordia in 1894. Today our agency continues to address the emotional and physical needs of children and families in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and across Long Island through innovative treatments and life-changing interventions. We provide community-based prevention and family foster care services, group homes in the community for struggling children and families within the child welfare and juvenile justice systems, and short-term residential services for unaccompanied migrant children. Each year, MercyFirst serves more than 3,000 children, teenagers and families overcome enormous obstacles, re-imagine their futures and develop their full potential.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for operational oversight to the case planning and education programs at MercyFirst’s co-ed 12 bed Diagnostic Center located in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The qualified candidate will provide strong on-site leadership and support to the two caseworkers and 1 educational coordinator in the program. He/she will be responsible for reviewing and monitoring all intakes and discharges from the program, and working in close collaboration with the Admissions department to maintain full census in the program. This candidate will promote the engagement of the youth and familial supports in collaboration with independent living, milieu, and integrated health staff. The qualified candidate will be responsible for collaboration with ACS on a regular basis to review current census in the program and ensure youth are being admitted/transferred in a timely fashion. The candidate will be expected to provide strong leadership on site to their team members and the youth in the program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Overall management of the case planning, education, and intake systems related to the provision of care and services for youth and families in accordance with all applicabl e OCFS and ACS standards, instructions and procedures, regulations, laws for Virginia House Diagnostic Program in Brooklyn. Establish and sustain a workplace environment that is respectful and supportive of residents, staff, family, community service providers, and other external stakeholders; Provide supportive, trauma-focused, and strengths-based supervision to the program. Represent the agency at external and internal planning/management meetings; Maintain compliance tracking and performance management systems to consistently monitor program outcomes and implement corrective action plans when necessary. Utilize Motivational Interviewing and/or additional evidence-based intervention models to help strengthen youth's commitment to their own growth and change. Direct supervision of the following positions: 2 Caseworkers for case management, family reunification, compliance, and education; an Education Coordinator responsible for the coordination and provision of educational services for the youth. This position will work in close partnership with the Sr. Director of NYC Residential Services to develop strategies that promote growth and change within the program with a focus on providing trauma-informed treatment to the youth in our care.

Salary Range:

$70,000-$72,000/per year
$1000 Hiring Incentive after 500 hours worked
