What are Trust Fund Positions?
Trust Fund positions are unique to the Smithsonian. They are paid for from a variety of sources, including the Smithsonian endowment, revenue from our business activities, donations, grants and contracts. Trust employees are not part of the civil service, nor does trust fund employment lead to Federal status. The salary ranges for trust positions are generally the same as for federal positions and in many cases trust and federal employees work side by side. This position is located in the Office of Outreach and Engagement, Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service | Smithsonian Affiliations (SITES | Affiliations). As the Smithsonian’s national outreach and engagement arm, SITES | Affiliations extends the Institution’s reach beyond Washington, DC, connecting communities nationwide with Smithsonian collections, stories, scholars, and resources. The Program Specialist (National Engagement) plays a key role in advancing Smithsonian Affiliations' national engagement efforts by supporting partnerships, coordinating outreach activities, and fostering relationships with Smithsonian Affiliates and external stakeholders. The position contributes to the development and implementation of initiatives that strengthen community engagement and expand public access to Smithsonian resources and opportunities.
Candidates must possess three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in program administration, project management, operations, grants management, museum administration, cultural programming, or a related field. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in museum studies, education, public administration, communications, nonprofit management, history, arts administration, cultural studies, business administration, or a related field.
Education completed outside the United States, must be deemed equivalent to higher education programs of U.S. Institutions by an organization that specializes in the interpretation of foreign educational credentials. This documentation is the responsibility of the applicant and should be included as part of your application package.
