Job description

fal is the generative media ecosystem powering the next generation of AI products. We build the infrastructure, tools, and model access that teams need to move from idea to production, and do it at scale without compromise. For developers and enterprises, fal is the foundation that makes generative media not just possible, but practical: a unified platform where high-performance inference, orchestration, and observability come together to unlock new categories of AI-native products.

As generative media reshapes industries across a market projected to grow by hundreds of billions over the next decade, fal is becoming the ecosystem that ambitious teams build on.

Why this role exists

We hire the people who are best at generative media, and they are rarely already living in the country we need them in. Today that means visa timelines, relocations, work authorization and cross-border employment questions land wherever there’s a spare pair of hands — a recruiter, an ops lead, outside counsel who bills by the hour and doesn’t know our roadmap.

We want one person to own all of it. Not a coordinator sitting on top of a law firm — someone who knows the law well enough to make the call, and cares enough about the experience that a first-time visa holder never feels like a ticket in a queue.

What you’ll own

Every case, start to finish. Sponsorship, renewals, permanent residence, work authorization, transfers, relocations — Americas, EMEA, APAC. You’re the first person an employee, a manager or our counsel talks to, and the last one to close the loop.

Licensed to practice in the U.S., in-house. You’re the expert here, not a router to a law firm. For EMEA and APAC you choose counsel, brief them properly, and pressure-test what comes back.

The policy, before we need it. Mobility and immigration policy, assignment structures, cost projections, compliance frameworks. Written down, actually followed, and sized for a company that will look different in a year.

The vendor bench. Immigration counsel, relocation and mobility providers. You set the service expectations, hold people to them, and replace whoever isn’t earning it.

The paperwork, automated. Case intake, status tracking, document collection, deadline chasing. We build our own internal tools here — you’ll have engineers who’d rather ship you something than watch you maintain a spreadsheet by hand. Your time should go to the hard cases, not the predictable ones.

The numbers. Cost per case, time to authorization, where risk is concentrated, which countries are getting harder. You bring the trend to the table before it becomes a surprise.

You’ll thrive here
  • You’ve personally run US and Canadian employment-based cases — H-1B, TN, L-1, O-1, PERM, adjustment. You’ve written the argument, not just forwarded the RFE. (Roughly seven years is what that usually takes, but we care about the cases, not the calendar.)
  • You’ve worked NAMER, EMEA and APAC through local counsel and know which questions surface the problem early, before it’s a rejection.
  • Being the entire function sounds good rather than alarming. There’s no mobility team here to join. You are it, and you’ll build the rest.
  • You automate your own job. You reach for AI and tooling by reflex, and you’re allergic to a tracker that only stays current because you keep typing into it.
  • You’re good with people on the worst day of their year — a denial, a delay, a spouse’s work permit, a school year that doesn’t line up. Warmth and discretion under pressure, with details that can’t be gotten wrong.
  • You’d rather write the policy than wait for one to exist.
Location
  • San Francisco; onsite five days a week.
