Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Kansas City, MO seeks an experienced Program Manager to lead large, complex capital programs across facilities and infrastructure. You will guide cross‑functional teams through inception to close‑out, implement strategies, and drive program performance with a focus on safety, client satisfaction, and value.

You will manage budgets, engage executive stakeholders, coordinate staffing, and ensure QA/QC and compliance. Extensive travel to project sites is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in engineering, construction management, business or related degree from an accredited program.
  • 10 years related consulting experience, preferably in the engineering or construction industry.
  • Experience leading a multi-discipline team that has executed and managed major projects or programs greater than $250 million.
  • Expert experience in managing projects including proposal development, contract negotiations, budgeting and scheduling.
  • Expert facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated success as to budget, savings and/or profit margins in completed projects.
  • Ability to influence, lead and manage.
  • Excellent planning and analytical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; ability to present complex information to all levels.
  • Expert knowledge of project management methodologies and tools including Microsoft Project.
  • Extensive travel and relocation to project location will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of overall Program strategic business initiatives to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Provide leadership to the Program team; direct and coordinate the work of a multi-disciplined team, and ensure efficient and cost-effective utilization of staff.
  • Be client facing and work with senior client leadership on reporting, issues resolution, and relationship building.
  • Drive systems integration, data collection, data management, data analytics and reporting tools to support strategic decisions on budgets and schedule risks.
  • Manage Program budget and expenditure of funds; achieve targets and standards for financial performance.
  • Present monthly financial information to leadership including project revenue forecasts.
  • Support strategies for cross-selling engineering services across the organization.
  • Recruit, develop, train, and retain staff; conduct performance evaluations for department staff.
  • Provide leadership and instruction to the department; ensure adherence to policies and safety standards.

Description Our Global Program Management Organization is seeking an experienced Program Manager to lead the successful delivery of large, complex capital programs across a diverse portfolio of facilities and infrastructure projects. This leadership role is ideal for a proven professional with extensive experience managing programs that may include federal government facilities (DOE, DOD), data centers, manufacturing and industrial facilities, advanced technology campuses, or other large-scale commercial and institutional developments. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to clients and executive stakeholders while leading multidisciplinary teams through every phase of project and program delivery.

As the Program Manager, you will be responsible for leading a diverse team in the successful delivery of complex programs & projects, from inception through final close-out, including the development and implementation of processes, procedures, strategy, execution plans, resource planning, risk management, and reporting tools. You will lead the program management team in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell's core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service.

What you will do:

  • Enforce compliance with company and site safety policies.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in engineering, construction management, business or related degree from an accredited program and 10 years related consulting experience, preferably in the engineering or construction industry.
  • Experience leading a multi-discipline team that has executed and managed major projects or programs greater than $250 million preferred.
  • Strong experience in client and business development.
  • Expert experience in managing projects, which includes proposal development, contract negotiations, project planning, project controls, system integration, owner’s engineering, real estate acquisition, permitting, environmental compliance, construction management, design team coordination & communication, budgeting, schedule management, and client coordination.
  • Expert facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated success as to budget, savings and/or profit margins in completed projects.
  • Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead and manage.
  • Excellent planning and analytical skills.
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Expert knowledge of project management methodologies and tools including the use of Microsoft Project or equivalent.
  • Extensive travel and or temporary or permanent relocation to the project location will be required.
