Job summary

The Salvation Army in Venice, FL seeks a full-time Corps leader to direct and oversee youth and family programs. You will supervise staff and volunteers, build community partnerships, and provide Christian leadership to foster spiritual development.

Education required is a Bachelor's degree with 2–4 years of youth development experience. The role includes meaningful community engagement and potential for evening or weekend events; a level 2 background screening is required.

Responsibilities

  • Directs, supervises, monitors, and evaluates the overall operation, finances, and direction of the Corps programs to include the School or Performing Arts program under the supervision of and in conjunction with the Corps Officers; builds and maintains a positive relationship with youth and families; establishes relationships with other agencies, as well as seeks to find those in the community that could also provide leadership to Salvation Army Corps programs; provides Christian leadership to the youth and families in order to encourage their spiritual development.

  • - Plans, develops, revamps, promotes, coordinates, and monitors activities for the youth and families on a regular basis to include but not limited to recreational, entertaining, educational, and/or devotional topics.
  • - Builds and nurtures positive relationships with the youth and families. Serves as a mentor and role model by leading youth and families; shares meals and fellowship time with the youth and families; provides individual spiritual guidance when needed; remains available and interruptible to youth and families’ needs and may be required to respond to emergency situations outside of normal hours of work in order to meet the needs of the clients and families.
  • - Develops, implements, and enforces program policies and procedures; evaluates program effectiveness and develops enhancements to improve overall operations and delivery of services.
  • - Supervises, plans, assigns, coordinates, and monitors the work of the Corps Soldiers and Corps Volunteers. Coordinates and works with the Volunteer Coordinator. Instructs and trains Soldiers and Volunteers in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • - Manages, maintains, and strengthens the relationships with local area organizations and volunteers that are partnered with The Salvation Army to ensure the success of Corps programs; maintain open regular communication with community partners providing regular program updates keeping partners abreast of program’s needs, successes, and opportunities for further involvement.
  • - Coordinates with the Corps Officers in the creation of strategic programming.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Work is normally performed in an office/Corps environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. For special outdoor events, there may be occasion for exposure to physical discomforts associated with being outdoors.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in related field

and

two to four years of experience performing progressively responsible youth development work,

or

any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Valid Driver's License. (Must meet the guidelines provided by the State of residence and the automobile insurance provider as pertaining to passenger vans/buses.)

Salvationist in good standing with The Salvation Army preferred, but not required.
