Qualifications

• PhD in microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, biochemistry or related discipline with 8+ years of industry experience.
• Strong background in bacterial vaccines and/or bacterial pathogenesis.
• Demonstrated people leadership and scientific mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Lead scientists in bacterial vaccine discovery and characterization.
• Serve as scientific lead/subject-matter expert across multiple vaccine programs.
• Characterize immune responses and protective efficacy in preclinical models.
• Advance programs from early research through candidate selection.
• Collaborate across Research, Translational Sciences, Bioprocess Development and Regulatory.
• Manage academic, biotech and CRO partnerships.
• Evaluate external science and potential partnering opportunities.
• Present strategy and data to senior leadership and governance teams.
• Mentor and develop junior scientists.

Job description

We are currently recruiting for a Director of Bacterial Vaccine Discovery opportunity with a leading global biopharmaceutical organization.

This is a highly visible scientific leadership role focused on the discovery and development of novel bacterial vaccines, including carbohydrate conjugate, mRNA and protein-based approaches.

The Director will lead a team of scientists responsible for identifying and characterizing vaccine candidates and advancing programs through the early-stage portfolio.

Key areas of responsibility include:

• Leading scientists in bacterial vaccine discovery and characterization
• Serving as scientific lead/SME across multiple vaccine programs
• Characterizing immune responses and protective efficacy in preclinical disease models
• Advancing programs from early research through candidate selection
• Collaborating across Research, Translational Sciences, Bioprocess Development and Regulatory
• Managing academic, biotech and CRO partnerships
• Evaluating external science and potential partnering opportunities
• Presenting strategy and data to senior leadership and governance teams
• Mentoring and developing junior scientists

We’re seeking a PhD in Microbiology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or a related discipline with 8+ years of industry experience, demonstrated people leadership, and a strong background in bacterial vaccines and/or bacterial pathogenesis.

The position is based in Gaithersburg, MD, and candidates must either be local or willing to relocate. A strong relocation package is available.
